Vote to keep Margaret Sanger off the $20 bill!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG
Sandra sent this along.  There has been quite a push to put Margaret Sanger's picture on the $20 bill.  Sandra shares how we can vote to put pro-life woman like Susan B Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton or Clara Barton on the bill (you must vote for three).  Thanks Sandra!  Anne

Please help get on the email vote to get a woman on the $20 bill replacing Andrew Jackson who is now thought to have a "questionable past."
Strangely enough, a couple of the the nominees for this honor don't have questionable pasts but well documented pasts which have done far more to harm women than to help. The list includes Margaret Sanger!  It is sickening to think of our country officially honoring someone like Sanger.  Preliminary voting closes on April 5 and then there is a final vote.  Vote now at:  http://www.womenon20s.org/  and please send this to all your contacts.  Thanks in advance.

Colorado woman who cut baby out of mother's womb will not be charged in death of baby - prosecutor has PP ties

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG
Colorado has no fetal homicide laws.  They say that is why the woman who killed a little eight month pre-born baby girl by cutting her from her mother's womb won't be prosecuted.
Now we find that the prosecutor is essentially a creature of Planned Parenthood...
Officially Massachusetts does not have such laws either, but, as you can see from the cases below, prosecutors and judges in Massachusetts have acted with common sense.
Massachusetts # Commonwealth vs. Lawrence, 536 N.E.2d 571 (Mass. 1973) affirms the conviction for murder of a woman and involuntary manslaughter of her 27-week-old fetus.
Commonwealth vs. Cass, 467 N.E.2d 1324 (Mass. 1984) rules that a viable fetus is within the ambit of the term "person" in the vehicular homicide statute.  The case refers to Mass. Gen Law, ch. 90 § 24G, which defines vehicular homicide.
Another "unintended consequence" of legal abortion.  Lord hear our prayers for the parents of that little girl.

40 Days for Life Closing Week.

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG
You still have time to volunteer to be part of this marvelous effort.  You might hit the only warm day of the 40.
Commendations to the coordinators and volunteers who braved the worst weather possible to pray for the babies and their mothers!
Thank you, Anne

Rita Russo shared this huge news.  Since the first coordinated 40 Days for Life campaign in 2007, we have confirmed reports of 10,000 babies  who are alive today because their mothers rejected abortion and chose life!  These are people who said that they changed their minds and decided NOT to have an abortion. Praise God!

Today is day 34 of this campaign, and 301 of those babies have been saved during this campaign.  We are on our final week of vigil, ending on Palm  Sunday with a Concluding Prayer Service at 3 pm, Sunday, March 29th with Rev. Michael McNamara.  Please join us!

Friday, March 27th at 7 pm, we will have our last English Candlelight Vigil led by Rev. Joseph McDermott.

Saturday, March 28th at 6 pm, we will have our last Spanish Candlelight Vigil led by the Seminarians from St. John's Seminary.

Stations of the Cross at Planned Parenthood at 9 am  on Good Friday.

We will still be out there every day this week praying through Sunday.   If you haven't made it out yet, you still have time.  The snow has melted and the parking meters have re-appeared on Commonwealth Avenue.

40 Days for Life has put out a short video of the 3 things to say outside an abortion clinic.  You can see it here:  https://40daysforlife.com/2015/03/19/top-3-things-say/

Worcester:

SUNDAY, MARCH 29th3-4:45PM – Our campaign's closing event will begin with an hour of prayer across the street from Planned Parenthood. Immediately following, we will have Adoration and Benediction in the Problem Pregnancy chapel at 495 Pleasant Street.

Bravo to the "social worker in Massachusetts"

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG

Thank goodness this local social worker had the good of this little girl at heart and, incidentally, followed the law.  Just think what would have happened if this predator had called one of our abortion facilities!

MCFL Convention was very rewarding

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG
Those who attended the Convention were delighted with what they learned and with the chance to exchange ideas.
Prof. Michael New proved beyond a statistical doubt that state laws and other efforts by state organizations have dramatically cut the number of abortions, thus saving many babies.
Two-parent parental consent laws (not just notification or one parent) cut the number of abortions by 31%!  His talk was full of gems like that.
Nancy Valko, RN shared many of her personal and professional experiences.  One thing that stood out was that, when Nancy operated on principle for a family member or patient, the result was that many of her colleagues changed their minds and started advocating properly.
Dr Mark Rollo shared the facts which show that NaproTechnology, besides being moral, natural, and safe for baby and mother is also  as successful or more successful than in vitro fertilization.  We must work to get the word out about this "miracle"

After lunch, we started something new.  Conventioneers who wanted more from one of the speakers had the opportunity to sit down and interact, question, etc.  It was marvelous.  The problem was choosing which speaker (s) to sit with.
Linda Thayer, as usual, is a huge draw.  She talked about Frameworks legislation and presented her newest program.  People were coming up to tell me they want to have her come to their towns.
Usually, by the end of the day, people are getting restless and eat lots of cookies and soft drinks.  On Saturday we has dozens of each left over because people were mesmerized and didn't even think of getting up.
Topping off the wonderful speakers was Colleen Janz, Executive Director of the Susan B Anthony Birthplace Museum, who came with her traveling wall.  Colleen didn't give a presentation, she gave a performance.  She made the life and times of Anthony and her fellow "suffragists", particularly their pro-life position on abortion, come alive.
It was fun to see Eric Anthony, a collateral descendent, in the audience.
I want to extend a huge thanks to St Sebastian School who lent us their beautiful facilities and resources.
We are so lucky that wonderful speakers and locations are so committed to the issue of life that they will share with us.  The pictures and videos will be available shortly - I'll let you know.
Thanks again to everyone involved in making the Convention such a success!

It could be too late to be adorable - deadline tonight!

If you are like I am, you have had your eye on a little cutie whose picture you plan to submit to be the Walk/March Baby but you have not actually submitted the picture.  Well, we have to do it by midnight today or it will be too late!  Please get that picture in.  I am dying to see your baby!  http://masscitizensforlife.org/2015-massachusetts-march-for-life-march-baby-contest/

A baby saved yesterday in Springfield!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG
This just came from the MCFL Ludlow office,
FYI we had a save in Springfield yesterday morning.  Two of our people showed the couple a video and they immediately changed their minds!
Hallelujah!
The story is going around the internet about the young mother who was rejected by American Idol three times.  A video of her singing to her baby has gone viral and she has received a number of offers.  The neat thing is that she sat in an abortion clinic for seven hours crying and finally decided not to abort the little one who now is the light of her life.  In the story, it mentions that many mothers have posted pictures of babies they were all set to abort - one is 17 and "his mother's best friend".  I cannot find where those pictures are posted.  If you know, would you pass it on, please?  I think it would be great to share.
Thanks! Anne

Sure enough, Warren and Markey won't help victims of sex trafficking!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG

Those of you who called them are not surprised that Senators Warren and Markey value abortion more than the victims of sex trafficking.  This is an excellent account with some very thoughtful quotes.  Anne

40 Days Wednesday good news update!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG
Rita Russo, who does a fabulous job organizing 40 Days in Boston, sent this update.  All of you who have volunteered are wonderful! Anne

Today is day 28 of this campaign, with 12 days to go.  I am happy to report that 265 babies have been saved from abortion at all the sites since the beginning of the campaign, February 18th.  Never doubt the value and importance of your efforts and sacrifices for life.  Do not be discouraged.  God sees your actions.

We have the following events scheduled for the last 2 weeks of the campaign:

English Candlelight Vigils Fridays at 7 pm, March  20, and 27

Spanish Candlelight Vigils Saturdays at 6 pm, March 21, 28

Concluding Prayer Service on Sunday, March 29th at 3 pm.

We still need prayer warriors from 7 am to 7 pm every day.  Please sign up for vigil hours on our website: https://40daysforlife.com/local-campaigns/boston/

Mother Teresa once said, "Peace begins with a smile."  Remember that pro-life ministry begins with treating all you come across as a child made by a loving Creator; your simple smile can be the thing that turns someone's heart to the kind, loving ways of their Father in Heaven.

Prayer
Father of mercy and grace, we thank you for the gift of our children. Grant that every fiber of our being may rejoice when a new baby, our own or any else's, is born into the world. Help us to welcome them as we would welcome you, for whenever a new baby is conceived, another life to bear your image and another voice to praise and worship you, is beginning. In Christ's name we pray. Amen.

"God, the Lord of life, has entrusted to men the noble mission of safeguarding life, and men must carry it out in a manner worthy of themselves. Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes." Vatican Council II

Deadlines for Baby Contest nominations and Convention registrations!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG
All of a sudden, Monday, March 23rd is almost upon us!   That is the last day to register your favorite little person(s) to be the 2015 Walk/March Baby!  You know all babies are beautiful, so the only requirement is that the baby be between 6 and 24 months today.
The Convention this Saturday looks marvelous.  The speakers are truly amazing AND Rosalie is baking for coffee in the morning.  It is worth coming just for her goodies.
 "We're All About Life", March 21, 8:30 - 4, St Sebastian's in Needham.  http://masscitizensforlife.org/mcfl-convention-2015-register-today/
I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your little relatives and friends and to seeing you at the Convention for all or part of the day.

Anne

PS  If you had planned to mail the baby pictures instead of registering online, you may bring them with you to the Convention and Matt will take them back to the office on the 23rd.

Senators Warren and Markey oppose aid to victims of human trafficking?

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG
Well, let's put it this way, they will most likely vote against an aid to victims of human trafficking bill, so...
As you'll see in the article from Politico, this very fine bill, which should have the support of all, contains Hyde language prohibiting funds to pay for abortions.  The Democrats are outraged!  If the bill comes to a vote many of them will vote against it.  http://www.politico.com/story/2015/03/how-abortion-politics-scuttled-a-human-trafficking-bill-116042.html?hp=b1_l2
Personally, I plan to call Senators Warren and Markey right away, ask their aides how each of them is going to vote, and then be shocked, shocked by the answer.  If they do vote for the bill, they will be voting for the abortion-funding ban - they can't win.
The other delicious bit is that the they did not know the language was in the bill because they did not read the bill!
The situation of these poor victims is dreadful and needful of redress.  The situation in which the Democratic senators find themselves is hilarious.  Anne
Senator Warren,  (202) 224-4543
Senator Markey,  (202) 224-2742

Our Dear Elinor Rafferty, former MCFL President, has died!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG

June Newman, Elinor's close friend just called to tell me that Elinor died this morning.  Elinor - the funny, spunky, super-committed gal who was always doing some pro-life work.  When we had our Board Christmas party at my house last December, I wondered how I would get it all together without Elinor and June.

When someone gets elderly and frail, it is harder for people to remember them, especially when many who are left didn't know them.  Trust me, Elinor was always up to pro-life good, taking care of the movement and of individuals.  I'll let you know as soon as we have arrangements.

Dear Friend of Life,

We all have a huge, vitally important job to do and we need you as part of the team!  We must restore protection for life at all stages.  As a member of Massachusetts Citizens for Life, you will be essential to our efforts.  I hope you will join us at this exciting time.

I honestly believe, that when we restore legal protection for the unborn, it will invalidate the pro-death cliches (quality of life, cost of care, etc) and will keep them from being used against others on the edges of life.

Let's look at the public policy question we had on last November's ballot in 11 State Representative districts calling for the local legislator to vote for legislation requiring facilities that perform abortions to be licensed and inspected. We averaged more than 70% of the vote! That is 11 districts out or 160. We know there are more than 40 other districts that are as pro-life demographically.

The people involved made it easy because they had some organization and activity in place.

We plan to go in to every district in the state and try to organize in the same way.  That is necessary for when the abortion issue is returned to the states.  Immediately, it is necessary to stop the "Care and Comfort in Dying" bill which has been filed.

The Convention on March 21st is going to be great!  You will notice that members get a discount. The Mothers Day Dinner is coming together beautifully with Virginia Webb as Chair and Carol Tobias, President of National Right to Life Committee, as speaker.  Student Lobby Days are progressing, the Speakers Bureau is well on its way to speaking to 10,000 students this school year, the Walk for Life on June 28 is now the Massachusetts March for Life with a whole new look and tone with many more young people, and we are seeking locations for the Summer Academy, which draws students from all over the state.

I hope you enjoy getting our emails and have learned something from them.  Please help us to continue to grow by becoming a member of Massachusetts Citizens for Life! (CLICK HERE to join today!) As a member you will receive our wonderful quarterly magazine.

The website also has the option to pledge I can't tell you how important pledges are. Every time you pledge, you make it possible for me to plan our life-saving work.

I thank you for your commitment, your support, and your prayers.

With gratitude,

Your ears must be burning!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG

Eva is at the State House looking out for the interests of life.  Yesterday some legislators got talking and told her that they are very impressed with how well-informed right to lifers are when they call or visit.
That is not surprising.  I know you care enough about the life issues to keep up with developments.  We do not know when hearings on our bills will take place, but here is some background.  I'll be featuring different bills in future emails

Here are the bills we have sponsored.  We have posted the background information on all the bills we have sponsored.  http://masscitizensforlife.org/9804-2/. Note especially the Women's Safety Act which grew from the 2014 ballot question on licensing abortion facilities, where we garnered more than 70% of the vote.

Our biggest challenge is going to be the doctor prescribed suicide bill.  Every session we think it can't get worse.  This time they have copied and pasted definitions which they hope will lull people into thinking that safeguards are in place but, in every case, those supposed safe guards are contradicted in what the bill actually says will happen.
The whole suicide may be accomplished in one day and any doctor who is approached is forced to be complicit!

Keep up your good work and thank you!
Anne

2015-2016 Legislative Agenda

For the 189th Session of the General Court of Massachusetts MCFL is once again offering a full pro-life legislative agenda. The bills are geared toward reducing abortions, protecting the unborn and infants and educating and informing the public about the value of life and the horror of anti-life policy.
The Women's Safety Act
Primary Sponsor: Rep. Elizabeth Poirier (R-Attleboro) and Rep. John Rogers (D-Norwood)
This bill, amending the definition of "clinic" in the General Laws, would bring needed attention to the lack of licensing and inspection of numerous non-hospital abortion facilities in Massachusetts

Laura's Law/ The Women's Right to Know Act
Primary Sponsor: Rep. Elizabeth Poirier (R-Attleboro)
This bill is named for Laura Hope Smith, who died as the result of a surgical abortion performed by an incompetent physician. If passed, the bill would offer women more complete information about abortion and fetal development. Women seeking abortions would also be given a chance to see a sonogram of their child. A 24 hour waiting period would be imposed to ensure considered decisions were made.

Massachusetts Partial-Birth Abortion Ban
Primary Sponsor: Rep. Kevin Kuros (R-Uxbridge)
This bill would end the barbarous and utterly gratuitous practice of partial birth abortion in the Commonwealth. The 2003 federal ban, upheld in 2007 by the Gonzales v. Carhart decision, may or may not be enforced by federal prosecutors, who are often more involved in issues such as drug trafficking, tax fraud, etc. A state ban would ensure that offenders can and will be prosecuted in Massachusetts.

The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act
Primary Sponsor: Rep. Elizabeth Poirier (R-Attleboro)
Extensive research indicates that, by the gestational age of 20 weeks, unborn children endure excruciating pain during the abortion procedure. This bill would prohibit abortions after 20 weeks.

The Taxpayer Conscience Protection Act
Primary Sponsor: Rep. Geoff Diehl (R-Whitman)
This bill would allow taxpayers the opportunity to indicate on their state tax return that they would like the portion of their taxes usually spent on government-funded abortions to instead fund the Baby Safe Haven program.

YOU can make the Boston Globe run a pro-life ad! Yes, you can...

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG
I am embarrassed to admit that we subscribe to the Boston Globe - my husband insists on the sports.  I always feel that I should do penance.  If you subscribe you may feel that way also.  WELL... this marvelous opportunity has come up!  The Globe is giving subscribers vouchers which will be used to run ads for charities of their choice.  That means you and I can (I already have) get vouchers worth $100 toward a Massachusetts Citizens for Life, Inc. ad!!!!
You don't need anything but this link  and your phone number.  PLEASE BE SURE TO LIST YOUR GROUP AS MASSACHUSETTS CITIZENS FOR LIFE, INC.
We have those great billboards and are working on new ones.  A nice, big, pro-life ad in the Globe would certainly go along well to educate the general public.  Just the thought makes my day!
Please go to BostonGlobe.com/GRANT  immediately and get your voucher.
Thank you, thank you

Anne
PS  What could be easier or more life-saving.  Again, please be sure to list Massachusetts Citizens for Life, Inc.
