Maria Talks asks:  Do people really have abortions?

The Herald wrote last week:  "Maria tells teen readers abortion is a 'hot topic' but that the procedure is 'more common than you think' and 'safe and effective, though some people may experience temporary discomfort.'  The site's discussion of risk is limited to advising that it is better to get an abortion sooner rather than later."

This afternoon, the site says:  Yes.  It has been estimated that as many as four out of every 10 women in the United States have had at least one abortion by the time they turn 40 years old.

MT was down this morning - could it have been to change some evidence?

PRESS CONFERENCE:  This morning a bi-partisan group of state legislators held a press conference to announce that they are sending a letter to the Governor demanding that MT be taken down and de-funded.  They will deliver the letter tomorrow because they expect to add to the fifty signatories.

Re. Marc Lombardo (R-Billerica) is leading the effort.  He spoke, as did Reps. Colleen Garry (D-Dracut), Elizabeth Poirier (R-North Attleboro), and Stephen DiNatale (D-Fitchburg).  Also spearheading the letter are Reps.  James Lyons (R - North Andover) and John Rogers (D-Norwood).  Other lawmakers at the press conference included Reps Geoff Diehl (R-Whitman), Donald Wong (R-Saugus), George Ross (R-Attleboro), Ryan Fattman (R-Sutton), Angelo D'Emilia (R-Bridgewater), David Vieira (R-Teaticket), Kevin Kuros (R-Uxbridge), Richard Bastien (R-Garnder), Viriato DeMacedo (R-Plymouth), Don Humason (R-Westfield), and Jay Barrows (R-Mansfield).  Read more.

John Triolo, our Assistant Legislative director, provides this video of the press conference.

John also reminds you that you can "Ask the Governor" on Thursday at 9am with Jim and Margery on 96.9 on the radio dial.  Email your questions now  askthegovernor@969bostontalks.com or call during the show, 617.822.9600.  Please ask about MT - parental consent, lack of scientific information, advocacy of sexual activity and abortion for minors, when he is going to deal with this, etc.  The prior emails about MT might help you.

Tomorrow I'll have the entire list of legislators signing the letter.  Please be thinking of questions.  There are some Gov. Patrick certainly should answer!  Anne

THANK YOU!

  1. Isn't sex a part of life? None of these people are advocating sex. Making information about how to do it safely is not the same as suggesting you do it. You twist words to serve a larger, repressive agenda. You make me sad.
