District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 3803) passed tonight, 220 to 154, a 66 vote margin, but short of the two-thirds vote required under the fast-track procedure utilized today ("suspension of the rules").
Only 154 voted in favor of abortion for any reason any time in pregnancy and we had 9 of them! Our "share" should have been three. Yes, we have ten Congressmen but Barney Frank didn't vote. That means Olver, Neal, McGovern, Capuano, Markey, Tierney, Tsongas, Lynch, and Keating all cast extreme pro-abortion votes!
What can we do? Heed the words of Doug Johnson, crack Legislative Director of National Right to Life, "Today's groundbreaking majority vote constitutes a giant step towards this bill ultimately becoming law -- perhaps after the replacement of some of the lawmakers who today were unwilling to protect pain-capable unborn children in the sixth month of pregnancy and later."
Just remember we did have a life-saving victory today in the MA State House! Anne
