They say that any communication with a legislator should contain only one topic.
This week we have to contact Senator Brown about the dreadful Disclose Act, Abortions in the military, and the Kagan confirmation, all of which are expected to be voted on before the Senate recesses at the end of next week.
Usually we need to make phone calls instantly.
For these three items, emails will do as long as each of us sends three separate emails now which tell the whole message in the subject. scott_brown@brown.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/contactme The first two are great big THANK YOU'S, These are possible subject lines:
1) THANK YOU FOR OPPOSING DISCLOSE AND CLOTURE
2) THRILLED WITH YOUR STATED OPPOSITION TO DISCLOSE
3) VERY PROUD THAT YOU ARE OPPOSING DISCLOSE
1) THANKS FOR COMMITTEE VOTE ON MILITARY ABORTIONS
2) SO GRATEFUL WE CAN COUNT ON YOUR VOTE AGAINST MILITARY ABORTIONS
3) ABORTIONS IN THE MILITARY - THANKS FOR YOUR OPPOSITION
Please send a separate email on Disclose and on funding abortions in the military.
The subject line is the most important. Say whatever you want in the body and be sure to give your name and address as a Massachusetts resident.
As far as
Kagan nomination. To us, this is the most important of the three! Because she is from Massachusetts, it was protocol for the two Massachusetts Senators to introduce her. Scott Brown is polite, etc and I am afraid he feels honor-bound to vote for a "native (ha) daughter"
Since he introduced her, however, it has come out that she put words in the mouth of the American Medical Association making it look as thought they thought Partial Birth Abortion was sometimes the only method of treatment. In fact they had said they did not know of any situation where PAB was medically necessary. The words she put in their mouths were used by countless judges to justify the grisly procedure. Former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop is opposing her for that reason.

Your efforts are so important - and so effective.
Thank you, Anne
P. S. I reprint the MCFL Press Release opposing her confirmation in case it will be of any help.

Mass Citizens for Life Urges Kerry and Brown
to Vote Against Kagan Confirmation
Boston- Massachusetts Citizens for Life calls on Senators Scott Brown and John Kerry to vote against confirmation of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court. The organization is concerned that Kagan espouses two ways to change the Constitution: the amendment process under Article 5 and judicial activism.
Ms. Kagan obviously favors the activist approach. An example of this is her intervention in the Partial Birth Abortion Ban debate where she re-wrote the statement by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The AGOC had said that "in the vast majority of cases, selection of the partial birth procedure is not necessary to avert serious adverse consequences to a woman's health." Kagan wanted to defeat the PBAB, so she added that the procedure ..."may be the best or most appropriate procedure in a particular circumstance to save the life or preserve the health of a woman." Many courts overturned the ban on the basis of her language, assuming it was that of the impartial medical experts at the ACOG.
According to Anne Fox, President of MCFL, "In order to influence the outcome of a political case Kagan was willing, as a White House aide, to change the official statement of an organization to which she didn't even belong! This raises serious questions as to whether she can be trusted as a judge. We urge Senators Brown and Kerry not to take the chance with this life-time appointment".
Massachusetts Citizens for Life was incorporated in 1973 and is the Commonwealth's largest pro-life organization. MCFL is an affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee.
