This is to remind you that the MCFL Federal PAC has endorsed Michael Sullivan (R) for U.S. Senator.  If you are a Republican or unenrolled, you can pick up a Republican ballot and vote for Sullivan. The MCFL State PAC has endorsed Nick Collins (D) in the First Suffolk State Senate District (South Boston and Dorchester).  You will need to be a Democrat or unenrolled to vote for Collins in this race. VERMONT VOTE ON DPS TOMORROW - YOUR PRAYERS VITAL

Doctor prescribed suicide has never passed in a state legislature.  For years the death lobby has been working to make Vermont the first state.  Our people have held them off. Message from John Rowe, Chair, MCFL Federal PAC: If you are a registered Democrat, it is important for you to vote next Tuesday in the Democratic Primary.  Yes, Michael Sullivan is the only pro-life candidate and he is a Republican, but there are still reasons for you to vote. Many people point out that Stephen Lynch votes pro-life sometimes - most recently against sex-selection abortion.  These people plan to vote for Lynch because they consider him the lesser of two evils, the one who would do the least damage. Other people say that Lynch and Ed Markey are both pro-abortion so there is no difference between them.  If you honestly believe that, then you should vote for other reasons. As you know, our goal has always been to have all candidates be pro-life in every race.  Then we would vote on other issues.  This also applies in reverse. Please consider these points seriously.  Do not forfeit your right to vote!

We Have Lost Three Dear Friends

In the beginning, there were the "Wilke slides" and the Handbook on Abortion, both created by Barbara Wilke, RN and her husband, Dr John Wilke.  Without them there would have been no way to teach people about the horrors of abortion.  The Wilkes have continued as leaders of the right to life movement all these years.  Barbara died on April 14 at almost 90 years of age after 65 years of marriage, leaving six children, 22 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.  Jack Wilke, former President of the National Right to Life Committee,  continues as President of Life Issues Institute, which still continues pro-life education. Howie Phillips died on April 20.  He came from Boston and graduated from Harvard.  He ran for U S Senate in Massachusetts in 1978 as a Republican and for President many times in the Constitution Party.  He founded the Conservative Caucus.  He served as Director of the Office of Economic Opportunity under President Nixon.  Howie was a genuine pro-lifer. When President Reagan proposed Sandra Day O'Connor for the Supreme Court, Howie publicly opposed her because of her voting record in the Arizona legislature and her connections with Planned Parenthood.  Others were aware of O'Connor's record but Howie was the only person who correctly identified David Souter's stealth positions.  Howie opposed Souter because "I read his senior thesis at Harvard in which he said he was a legal positivist ...and that he rejected all higher law theories, such as those spelled out in our Declaration of Independence. In addition, he was a trustee of two hospitals where he successfully changed the policy of those two hospitals from zero abortion to convenience abortion." Joseph R. Nolan, the pro-life gentleman, was appointed to the Supreme Judicial Court in 1981 by Governor Edward J. King where he served for fourteen years.  Justice Nolan authored and coauthored several law books. He also served as a professor at Suffolk University Law School. Prior to joining the SJC, Justice Nolan served on the Appeals Court, the Superior Court and the Brighton Municipal Court. Earlier in his career, Justice Nolan served as General Counsel to the Massachusetts Lottery Commission and was an associate at the law firm of Mansfield, Connolly and Gartland in Boston. A veteran of the United States Navy, Justice Nolan received his undergraduate and law degrees from Boston College. He later received that law school's St. Thomas More Award for distinguished service in professional and private life. So many of us had the pleasure of attending a pro-life event where Judge Nolan was the emcee or one of the guest speakers.  There was no more gracious or delightful speaker.  Judge Nolan died yesterday morning (Tuesday). THEY Are Trying to Blame Us for Gosnell!

In the midst of all that is going on around here, the Gosnell trial isn't getting the coverage it should. Each day's testimony is worse.  The preferred method to kill the babies was to induce labor and make the mother sit on the toilet for hours until the baby was born.  Yesterday a former employee testified about a baby swimming in the toilet trying to get out. The price list has been published for the Gosnell clinic and other clinics in the area.  His prices seem pretty comparable except, one would hope, the other clinics are not doing illegal abortions and then killing the babies who are born. Earlier this week, the pro-abs held a nation-wide conference call with their leaders and the press.  They blamed pro-life efforts for places like Gosnell's.  The theory, which the media is picking up, is that, if we had not passed any protective laws, women would not be forced to go to a place like Gosnell's.  Then clean places could take care of killing almost full-term babies. As you know, there are multiple more pregnancy resource centers across the country than there are abortion mills.  Looking at the list of beneficiary groups for the Walk to Aid Mothers and Children, it seems there are at least three times as many helping places in Massachusetts - staffed by volunteers, giving each woman whatever she needs to have her baby.  Often it is help for older children, help with the rent,... Overcoming A Culture of Death

In Massachusetts this week, it is hard not to think of the Culture of Death.   From the bombings at the Marathon to the Gosnell trial, we are reminded that innocent lives are being targeted. I would like to share with you this prayer that my friend, Br. Bob, sent yesterday from D.C. Let us pray for those who died and for their loved ones, for those injured – and for this country that we will abandon fear in favor of a faith that gives courage in all things. I know you have also been reading reports about the Gosnell trial in Philadelphia.  Gosnell has been an out-in-front abortionist since before Roe v Wade.  He was so inept that it was easier for him to deliver babies alive - some as large as six pounds -  then "snip" their spinal cords to kill them.  His treatment of their mothers wasn't much better.  The conditions were unimaginable. I remember a four page insert in the Philadelphia Inquirer in 1981 by Liz Jeffries and Rick Edmonds, "Abortion, The Dreaded Complication,"  The complication was aborted babies being born alive.  The thing I remember most vividly about the expose was the description of a dog licking up blood on a "clinic" floor.  Apparently even that didn't cause Pennsylvania officials to exercise any oversight of this horrific and almost unimaginable situation ! When Gosnell was arrested, Massachusetts Citizens for Life sent out an email that asked how we would know that similar conditions did not exist here in Massachusetts.  We still have to wonder and are faced with close-to-home examples like Laura Hope Smith who died during an abortion, a "clinic" in Attleboro has been cited by the Department of Public Health, and at least three women have been rushed to hospitals recently because of complications during abortions. I am so sad to think of the babies whom no one loved, who suffered without any consolation, and of their mothers, the women who were also abused. With everything that is going on, now more than ever we need to "do something" to show love for the babies and their mothers and to show publicly that there are people who care.  We need to do something positive to help build a Culture of Life.  In the face of this Culture of Death, we all can stand up and show our support for pro-life pregnancy resource centers and make sure that they have the resources to build that Culture of Life.  I am  grateful that our Walk to Aid Mothers and Children is scheduled for next week on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the LaSalette Shrine in Attleboro!  The Walk Committee has worked very hard.  We will all benefit. We will have two new pro-life Representatives in the Massachusetts House as a result of last week's two special elections. Leah Cole (R), Peabody, replaces Joyce Spiliotis who called herself "pro-choice" but supported some of our legislation and opposed Question 2, Doctor-Prescribed Suicide. Wayne Matewsky (D), Everett, replaces stridently pro-abortion,  Stephen "Stat" Smith.  Congratulations to them both! Last Friday, the Public Health Committee of the Connecticut House was scheduled to report out the Doctor-Prescribed Suicide bill.  It reported out every other bill it had considered, thus putting them on track for a vote of the full House.  The Chairman announced that the bill was too controversial because they had gotten so much pressure from citizens The Massachusetts Alliance Against Doctor-Prescribed Suicide and Second Thoughts worked with the people in Connecticut sharing what they had learned from the win on Question 2.  The battle is continuing in Vermont where our people are amazing.  The bill has been filed in Maine and, in New Jersey, could come for a vote on the floor at any time.  Of course, it has been filed again in MA but, for the moment, we are ok.
