Physician Assisted Suicide Bill pulled from Wednesday's hearings!
I want you to know that HB2233 - An Act relative to death with dignity is no longer on the Agenda for the hearing of the Judciary Committee on Wednesday. When you are preparing your testimony to present in person or to email, please leave it out and we will address it whan it comes up again. I hope this doesn't mean they are planning to groom it for greater things.
Reminder, we support HB2239 , HB 482, and HB 484 For information on bills and submitting testimony, please see yesterday's email.
Speaking of doctor prescribed death, National Right to Life reports (below) on the death of Jack Kevorkian and the Globe has a very interesting editorial on it, pointed out to us by Kris.
Be sure to do your testimony. I will be getting in touch with those who live in the districts of members of the Judiciary Committee. We absolutely must get Laura's Law, A Woman's Right to Know Bill, out of committee this year! Anne
WASHINGTON - Jack Kevorkian, the Michigan pathologist known the world over as "Dr. Death" for his push to legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide in the United States, died in a Detroit-area hospital at age 83. He readily admitted to assisting in the deaths of more than 100 people.
"Many of the victims on whom Jack Kevorkian preyed were people with disabilities who had no terminal illness; one was simply old. In at least five cases autopsies were unable to confirm any disease at all," observed Burke J. Balch, J.D., director of National Right to Life's Robert Powell Center for Medical Ethics.
"While some euthanasia advocates have sought to distance themselves from his bizarre positions and tactics, his tragic legacy illustrates the dangers to the most vulnerable when compassionate, humane responses to depression or disability are replaced with death as an acceptable final solution," Balch added.
