Could you use a really good deal on a Pitney Bowes mailing machine?

logo
At the MCFL office, we are doing our mailing differently and find we are not using our Pitney Bowes mailing machine to advantage.

We have three years left on our contract.  I am hoping that someone will take over the contract.  MCFL will pay for the first year of the three years.

If your mailing lease/contract is coming to an end or you want to try the PB system, this would be a great deal for you.

If you want more information or think you might be interested, please contact Marie Sturgis at 617-242-4199 or msturgis@masscitizensforlife.org

Thanks, Anne

Pray for the Smith Family - trial postponed again!

logo
Last week we told you: Now, after three long years, almost to the day, Rapin Osathanond, the abortionist involved in her death, will finally go on trial for manslaughter.

This is a landmark case in Massachusetts - the first trial of an abortionist in the death of a mother.

The trial will start on Sept 7th with jury selection and continue for 1 1/2 - 3 1/2 weeks at the Barnstable County Court House.

Well, the trial has been put off again (for the umpteenth time).

Ironically, it is scheduled for Monday, September 13 - exactly three years, to the day, since Laura's tragic death at the hands of abortionistRapin Osathanond. Maybe that is fitting, but how cruel for Laura's family!

I am reminded of what Eileen Smith wrote a year ago on the occasion of Senator Kennedy's death:

I would like to share with you again this poignant email from Eileen Smith and felt you would want to read it:

Laura died on the wrong side of Kennedy's Politics

My daughter, Laura Hope Smith died from a botched abortion in a doctor's office in Hyannis, MA on September 13th, 2007, down the street from the Kennedy Compound. I raised my family on Cape Cod near the medical Mecca of the world (Boston) with a false sense of security. Surely all our medical needs would be taken care of with the latest of technologies and the best of the best of doctors. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined my daughter would die at the hands of a Harvard Fellow doctor who practiced 3rd world medicine in our midst.

Laura died from the same drug that killed Michael Jackson, Propofol. Laura died for the same reason: carelessness, criminal negligence and recklessness. I was told the drs. criminal trail may start in February of 2010.

In January, a few months after my daughter's death, I knew I had to contact Senator Kennedy, the head of the US Senate Health Committee. Surely he would want to know what was happening in his own back yard in Hyannis. He certainly would not stand for such "abortions". I had visions of him personally closing down the office in righteous indignation. I had not followed Kennedy's political career and did not know he left his Catholic moorings of "Respect for Life" and joined the "Choice" group. I was totally unaware of Life politics at the time. I thought all Catholics were for Life. It was a given. After all, the Pope was watching!

I made a personal visit to the Senator's Washington DC office at the Senate by appointment and met with one of his aides. We spoke for almost an hour; she was polite, listened and took notes. She assured me I would hear back from her or someone else. One month went by. I called her, reminded her who I was and refreshed her on my story. Again I was assured I would hear something. I never did. Never got a call back. Never an ounce of concern came from Senator Ted Kennedy or his office regarding my daughter, whose life was snuffed short, carelessly, by the Harvard Fellow. To this day I cannot dignify him with the title of doctor. I refer to him by his first name, Rapin. Ironic isn't it? Rapin? I feel my daughter's life was raped from her along with my grandchild's.

The "Lion of the Senate", the Champion of the Little People and the overseer of Health Care in America was noticeably absent in the outcry after Laura's death. Also absent were all the organizations that are for "safe and legal" abortions. No, the lion didn't roar.

Much later I heard that Kennedy came down with brain cancer. I am sure he had the best of care by the highest caliber of doctors. But in the end it didn't matter, it was terminal. At least his family knew his end was near and could say goodbye. Laura and I never had that chance.

The most amazing thing!

We just received the email below. I am very excited about Jane's book. Our delegate from Massachusetts, Jim Killilea, gave the nominating speech for Ellen McCormack for President. At that time she received the most votes a woman had ever received at a Presidential Convention, was the first woman to have Secret Service protection, and to receive matching funds.
I had the honor to be the alternate delegate from Massachusetts. We worked with the most fabulous pro-life delegations from Minnesota and Missouri as well as individuals from other states. I still read about many of them who are doing great pro-life things.

At that time the Democratic party in Massachusetts required each candidate to hold a caucus in each Congressional District. There were nine real contenders, including Sargent Shriver, Birch Bayh, Lloyd Bentson, Frank Church, Hubert Humphrey, Eugene McCarthy, Walter Mondale, and Morris Udall.

The McCormack campaign was the only one able to organize in every CD, thanks to all the wonderful pro-life workers across the state! The reason Jim and I were able to go was because Ellen came in a close third in our CD. I learned so much from Jim, the most astute political thinker I have known, and from the McCormack people. They set goals and met them.

We'll plan to have the book for sale at the Walk and other upcoming events.
Thanks for bearing with me - it was an exciting time for life!
Anne

Dear Massachusetts Citizens for Life. In 1976 dedicated Massachusetts citizens did an outstanding job getting Ellen McCormack's name placed on the ballot. Their pioneering work helped succeeding states in their endeavors. As a result, Ellen McCormack's pro-life educational commercials were aired, reaching over thirteen million viewers in the Massachusetts area and over one hundred and ninety million viewers nationwide.

Massachusetts' valuable contribution to the campaign has been recorded in the book I have recently published. I think the family and friends of those who supported the Pro-Life Movement in those early days might be especially interested in this work. It is my hope that others will also be inspired by it.

Ellen McCormack

Nominated for President at the 1976 Democratic National Convention, Ellen McCormack became the first--and to date the only woman--to be awarded matching federal funds in any presidential primary campaign. Through the untiring efforts of dedicated volunteers from across the country, McCormack's television commercials brought the pro-life message to more than 190 million viewers. Her radio advertisements, news coverage, and stirring speeches reached countless others. A Shared Vision: The 1976 Ellen McCormack Presidential Campaign chronicles the adventures of this pioneering political effort by the newly emerging Pro-Life Movement, a legacy that resonates to this very day!

Jane Gilroy, who was the vice-chair of McCormack's campaign committee, is uniquely qualified to tell the story of the McCormack campaign. She invites readers to familiarize themselves with this important event in the history of the Pro-Life Movement.

Happy Mother Teresa's Birthday to You

logo
Wednesday is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Blessed Mother Teresa, a pro-life inspiration if there ever was one! These thoughts are her gift to us.

It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish.
Mother Teresa

The greatest destroyer of peace is abortion because if a mother can kill her own child, what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me? There is nothing between.
Mother Teresa

Do not think that love, in order to be genuine, has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired.
Mother Teresa

Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person.
Mother Teresa

God doesn't require us to succeed; he only requires that you try.
Mother Teresa

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.
Mother Teresa

God bless,
Anne

Our own Dr James Sherley stops federal funding of embryonic stem cell research!

logo
A U.S. district court issued a preliminary injunction today, stopping the federal funding of human embryonic stem cell research in the Obama administration's new guidelines.

The court ruled in favor of a suit filed by Dr. James L. Sherley, a former MIT professor and scientist, and other researchers who said human embryonic stem cell research involves the destruction of human embryos. They also made the very sensible argument that funds plowed into useless ESC research are depriving life-saving research and cures with adult stem cells.

Judge Royce Lamberth granted the injunction after finding that the lawsuit would likely succeed because the guidelines violated current law banning the use of federal funds to destroy human embryos.

The lawsuit says the guidelines violate the Dickey-Wicker appropriations provision regarding embryo research that prohibits federal funding of the creation of human embryos by any method, explicitly including human cloning, or any "research in which" human embryos are harmed in any way.

The National Institutes of health received 50,000 comments almost all of which were opposed to funding this research, and by its own admission, NIH totally ignored these comments.

Embryonic stem cell research has yet to help a single patient, unlike adult stem cell research -- which has helped patients with more than 100 diseases and medical conditions and which President Bush supported with hundreds of millions in federal funding.

The Obama administration could appeal the decision or try to rewrite the guidelines to comply with U.S. law. Since the judge implied they would not win on appeal, they might go to Congress. They will have to go before Nov 2nd while they still (may) have the votes!

You know, from meeting him and hearing him at many MCFL events, that James Sherley is a real hero. He didn't send those 50,000 emails in May of 2009, though. You and I and everyone we told sent them. When things seem uphill, please remember that and rejoice! Keep up the good work. Anne

WH Confidential: tell Dems to lie about Obamacare

logo
Ben Smith at Politico reports on a confidential power point presentation at the White House by a group of Democratic consultants which "suggests that Democrats are acknowledging the failure of their predictions that the health care legislation would grow more popular after its passage, as its benefits became clear and rhetoric cooled".

The presentation is designed to win over a skeptical public, and to defend the legislation--and in particular the individual mandate--from a push for repeal. . . .

"Straightforward 'policy' defenses fail to [move] voters' opinions about the law," according to the presentation. "Women in particular are concerned that health care law will mean less provider availability--scarcity [is] an issue."

The presentation also concedes that the fiscal and economic arguments that were the White House's first and most aggressive sales pitch have essentially failed.

"Many don't believe health care reform will help the economy."

The presentation's final page of "Don'ts" counsels against claiming "the law will reduce costs and deficit."

The presentation advises, instead, sales pitches that play on personal narratives and promises to change the legislation.

So their new line is supposed to be that they will "fix" it.

Contact your Congressman to say there is no way Obamacare can be fixed, that it must be repealed.
It is safe to say you plan to vote for repeal in November because all the Massachusetts Congressmen, except Capuano, have at least one opponent who favors repeal.

Michael Capuano (D-8), 202-225-5111
Stephen F. Lynch (D-9), 202-225-8273

John Rowe, Chairman of the MCFL FedPAC, reminds us that Delahunt is not running. He suggests, instead, that you call Jeff Perry, who features repeal, and volunteer: (Sandwich) 774-413-7472, (Plymouth) 774-283-4907, or (Quincy) 617-481-0483.

When you go to the the Mass. Citizens web site to check out the positions of the state and federal candidates, I think you will be pleased by how many good candidates there are. Much of the reason these people are running is because of the positive activity you have generated during the past year. You make the difference!
Thank you, Anne

ABORTIONIST TRIAL in Laura Hope Smith death, 9/7/10, finally

logo
Laura died on September 13, 2007.

Now, after three long years, almost to the day, Rapin Osathanond, the abortionist involved in her death, will finally go on trial for manslaughter.
This is a landmark case in Massachusetts - the first trial of an abortionist in the death of a mother.

The trial will start on Sept 7th with jury selection and continue for 1 1/2 - 3 1/2 weeks at the Barnstable County Court House. Yes, I think it is open to the public. We'll have more news as the time approaches.

Not only is it almost exactly three years since Laura died, but the trial will be going on at the time of the primary elections here in Massachusetts. Let us hope it will remind people of the scourge of abortion when they vote.

We can expect that the media will down-play this important trial as much as possible. Please make very effort to write letters to the editor, call radio shows, and do whatever else you can to generate public awareness.

People need to know about this!

Thanks, Anne

State PAC Endorsement for Attorney General

logo
The MCFL State PAC has distributed this press release.

MCFL State Political Action Committee
P.O. Box 320382
West Roxbury, MA 02132

                                                                                                         (617) 387-7820

MCFL State PAC Endorses Jim McKenna for Attorney General

Boston- Madeline McComish, Chairman of the MCFL State Political Action Committee, today announced that the MCFL State PAC has endorsed Jim McKenna for Attorney General in the September 14 Primary and November election.

"Jim McKenna is a dedicated defender of the law," said McComish.  "He served as an assistant district attorney in the Organized Crime Division of the Suffolk County District Attorney's office where he focused on corruption and organized crime in Boston. For six years, McKenna also served as an assistant district attorney in the Worcester County District Attorney's office."

McKenna holds pro-life positions on all aspects of the pro-life issue, from abortion funding to informed consent, to partial birth abortion and parental consent. Very important also is his pledge to enforce the Massachusetts laws that provide protection to unborn children and are currently in place, according to McComish.

Martha Coakley is totally opposed to any laws that will protect the lives of the unborn. She strongly supports abortion and takes anti-life positions on the other life issues.

Ten thousand (10,000) voters must write in: James  McKenna, Millbury, MAfor Attorney General on their Republican primary ballots on Sept. 14th in order to get his name on the November ballot.  Writing the same on a Democratic ballot won't count as a vote but will send a strong message.

MCFL State PAC is in the process of contacting pro-life people across the state and urging them to participate in the write in campaign. "This is the first time that the MCFL State PAC has endorsed a write in candidate," says McComish. "If we pull together on September 14, we will succeed in getting Jim's name on the November ballot and make a statement against Coakely in the Democratic primary.  Best of all, in November, we will elect a pro-life Attorney General."  For more information about MCFL State PAC, please visit http://MCFLStatePAC.intuitwebsites.com

Good news on CL plates! And a pro-life job opening.

logo
 Choose Life plates

I just heard a good story of a family with a number in the 300's.  They were vacationing in Maine when a man came up to the car to tell them how impressed he was with their pro-life plates.
My favorite personal experience was going to a pro-life talk in Quincy and counting an even dozen "Choose Life" plates!

Please remember that Merry was able to get the plates with 1500 applicants instead of the required 3,000 because a generous benefactor put up a bond of $100,000!  We need to get 1500 more people to get their plates so this kind person's bond can be returned.

A reporter asked whether there has been any negative feedback to people with plates.  I have asked around and around and heard of absolutely none.

You can be one of those people proudly spreading the pro-life word.  Just print application and mail.  http://www.machoose-life.org/images/ChooseLife_Registration_Application.pdf

He would not make abortion illegal, but these answers indicate a willingness to put limits on abortion. Many are torn, the choice is to not vote for Governor or to vote for Cahill as the least Pro-abortion candidate.  Alternate view that Cahill may have had a conversion of convience, including scrubbing his Pro-Choice links from his web site.

Senator Brown has just announced he will vote "No" on Kagan!

logo
Ed Whalen, at National Review on line reported the good news at 1:33pm today.  This is fabulous!  The no's are edging up toward 40.

We'll have Scott's phone number memorized with all the "thank you" calls.  He certainly deserves them!  Phone: (202) 224-4543,  Fax: (202) 228-2646

As your mother always told you, a proper "thank you" is of major importance.

It is nice to have some good news this week

Thanks  Anne

Bell-weather Missouri Crushes Obamacare!

logo
The voters in Missouri voted yesterday 71% against Obamacare.  Even though they had hotly contested primaries, many people turned out simply to vote against Obamacare!

We do not have Obamacare on the ballot, but our MCFL Repeal Obamacare Petitions will send the same message.  Bring the petitions with you wherever you go, stand in front of the supermarket or the post office, get 5 or 10 or 15 friends to do the same.  Completed petitions are piling up at the MCFL office!

Reply to this email or call 617-242-4199.  Let us know your name, address, the number of petitions you need, and the number of "push cards" which document the problems with Obamacare and MCFL proposals for ethical affordable health care.

You can make as much of a difference as the voters in Missouri.  Thank you!
Anne

Kagan vote Thursday - give Brown one more try!

logo

As you know, Senator Brown introduced Kagan because she was from Massachusetts.  It seemed that he felt it was polite to vote for confirmation.

MCFL picked up early that she rewrote the medical language of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists so that it appeared that they said Partial Birth Abortion was the best procedure in some cases.  Our press release of June 30th is below.

Now all Washinton, DC (except Reid and Obama) is buzzing in outrage over this unethical duping of the Supreme Court.  Even Democratic senators, who should be sure votes, are announcing their opposition.

Given the new information since Senator Brown introduced her and given what a dangerous judge she would be, it is worth calling or Fax-ing Senator Brown one more time.  Phone: (202) 224-4543,  Fax: (202) 228-2646

There are a lot of scary things in government these days.  Elena Kagan on the Supreme Court would be near number one.
Thank you!
Anne

Mass Citizens for Life Urges Kerry and Brown

to Vote Against Kagan Confirmation

Boston- Massachusetts Citizens for Life calls on Senators Scott Brown and John Kerry to vote against confirmation of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court.  The organization is concerned that Kagan espouses two ways to change the Constitution: the amendment process under Article 5 and judicial activism.

Ms. Kagan obviously favors the activist approach.  An example of this is her intervention in the Partial Birth Abortion Ban debate where she re-wrote the statement by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.  The AGOC had said that "in the vast majority of cases, selection of the partial birth procedure is not necessary to avert serious adverse consequences to a woman's health."  Kagan wanted to defeat the PBAB, so she added that the procedure ..."may be the best or most appropriate procedure in a particular circumstance to save the life or preserve the health of a woman." Many courts overturned the ban on the basis of her language, assuming it was that of the impartial medical experts at the ACOG.

According to Anne Fox, President of MCFL, "In order to influence the outcome of a political case Kagan was willing, as a White House aide, to change the official statement of an organization to which she didn't even belong!  This raises serious questions as to whether she can be trusted as a judge.  We urge Senators Brown and Kerry not to take the chance with this life-time appointment".

Making Obama's Ban on the Mexico City Policy Permanent

logo

Last Friday, Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D, NJ) introduced an amendment to the foreign appropriations bill that would make permanent President Obama's overturning of the Mexico City Policy. which stops tax dollars from going to groups that promote and perform abortions overseas.

During his first week in office Obama overturned the policy, first enacted by President Reagan, and opened the door to abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood receiving a share of $457 million designed to help impoverished nations.  The Appropriations Committee voted to make Obama's pro-abortion decision permanent.

If the bill becomes law with the Lautenberg provision attached, a pro-life president would not be able to reinstate the Mexico City Policy and protect taxpayers from funding abortions and abortion promotion. Congress would have to go back and pass a bill repealing the Lautenberg provision and a president would have to sign that bill into law.

The Senate State, Foreign Operations Appropriations bill also has another concern for pro-life advocates.

The legislation funnels millions more taxpayer dollars to groups like the United Nations Family Planning Fund (UNFPA), which has worked hand-in-hand with the population control officials in China to enforce the nation's one-child policy with forced abortions and other human rights abuses.

On top of the $55 million to UNFPA, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) would get a $24 million raise.  The USAID is currently funding (probably illegally) lobbying efforts to legalize abortion in Kenya's constitution.

Please call Senators Kerry (
202-224-2742) and Brown (202) 224-4543 to urge strong opposition to the Lautenberg Amendment against the Mexico City Policy.  We expect them to remove the amendment from the Senate State. Foreign Operations Appropriations bill and to vote against the bill if it is not removed.

Call immediately!   The general public is heavily on our side on this one!
Thank you everybody! Anne
