We have concentrated our calls on Congressmen Lynch and Neal because they voted for the Stupak Amendment.
It turns out other Congressmen have concerns with the Senate bill. If Congressman Capuano has concerns, many of the others must also.
Speaker Pelosi is floating the idea of the "Slaughter Solution", developed by the Chair of the Rules Committee, which would involve voting, not on the bill itself, but to declare the bill "passed". That way, they can tell constituents they did not vote for the bill, that the vote was just procedural.
Another thing which should make our Democratic congressmen nervous is that the Senate parliamentarian has just ruled that the president must sign the bill "as is" before any changes can be made through "reconciliation". Frankly, there is a lack of trust that the president and the leadership will allow any of the "fixes" our congressmen think are necessary.
No matter where you are in the state, you must call your congressman. Say you want the House to actually vote on the Senate bill and to vote against it.
It looks as though we are getting some place because of all you have been doing! Thank you! Anne
