Brittany's Death Dangerous to Us All

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

Friends, obviously we mourn the death of any person.  Poor Brittany was used by Compassion and Choices (formerly the Hemlock Society). According to reports, Brittany far out-lived her prognosis.   Let us hope and pray that her suicide will not be the opening the death lobby needs to pass dangerous doctor prescribed suicide laws.  As usual, Rita Marker says it so well: http://www.americanthinker.com/2014/10/a_deadly_campaign_masked_as_a_personal_decision_.html

We must be practical.  Doctor-prescribed suicide will be proposed again in the Massachusetts legislature.  That makes each of our votes tomorrow even more important.

We'll be sending out last-minute info on candidates later in the day.  You may also check the MCFL website: http://masscitizensforlife.org/mcfl-pac-endorsements-and-reccomendations/

Let's pray for all those have terminal illnesses.

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

The Tennessee Supreme Court found that the Tennessee Constitution includes the right to abortion.  That makes it almost impossible for the state to have basic protections like parental consent laws.  So Tennessee pro-lifers have placed Question 1 on the ballot.  It says that the right to abortion or abortion funding is not guaranteed by the Constitution.

Early on, MCFL sent a sacrificial contribution of $250 to support Question 1 - which we really didn't have.+

I just read that Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts sent $200,000 - a monetary advantage of almost 1000 to one!  This is what they do with (our) the tax money they receive.

One thousand to one!  What would the babies and those on the fringes of life do without dedicated people like you?  Laurie just called (it is snowing right now) to report that she is distributing our Question 5 literature.  It is people like Laurie who fuel our efforts for life.

Thanks to Laurie and to all of you!

All we can do is pray

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG

Brittany Maynard is the young woman with a brain tumor who moved to Oregon in order can kill herself on Saturday, which, ironically, is All Saints Day.  The case is doubly sad because she is being used by the death lobby, Compassion and Choices.

Brittany has received many many encouraging messages such as this:  http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/10/29/former-navy-man-becoming-priest-also-has-terminal-brain-cancer-and-a-message-for-the-woman-who-plans-to-killer-herself-in-three-days/.

We can only pray that she will decide against suicide once and for all.
Unfortunately, C&C has invested so much in her that I am afraid  she will be under a lot of pressure.  C&C is fine with her delay now because it keeps their message on the covers of all the magazines but they won't want to let her off the hook.

Let's keep praying for Brittany and all those with terminal diagnoses.

Banquet was Superb!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

It is so gratifying when people leaving an event are all saying it is the best one ever.  That is certainly what happened last night!  The Banquet was "sold out," many people were there whom we haven't seen in a while, the awardees were so deserving of recognition, and Ryan was delightful.  He tells about his life and work in such an entertaining, inspirational way.  He made so many excellent points.  One that struck me especially was that some of the best things in life are unplanned.  That takes a faith that so many lack these days.

I want to thank Bea Martins, Matt Hanafin (who is developing into a great speaker), and their committee, and our Executive Director, Pat Stewart, emcee par excellence.

I would like to remind you again of the Award winners who are just a few of the wonderful pro-lifers out there.

Pray With 40 Days, Today at Home, Tomorrow at an Abortion Facility Near You

Linda sent this a few minutes ago.
PLEASE PRAY FOR THAT FATHER WHO LOST HIS CHILD, 12 WEEKS OLD, TODAY.  READ BELOW.  GOD HELP US ALL.
40 Days for Life/Worcester
We ask you to pray for a young man who our prayer volunteers spent hours with today outside Planned Parenthood.  Carol reports, "We stood outside PP for 3 hours this morning with a crying young man whose girlfriend was inside aborting their 12 week-old baby which he desperately wanted.  He really needs a lot of prayers.  It was heartbreaking."
40 Days also needs you to pray at the facilities.  Sometimes, as you are praying, you can really feel the prayers reaching inside.  40 Days is doing a wonderful job!  If you haven't joined them yet, now is the time.  This campaign goes through Nov 2, All Souls Day.  You can easily sign up online for whatever time you want.
Thanks,
Anne

Question 5 Signs - View Here!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

PPQ Sign.PNG

The Public Policy Question to require abortion facilities to be licensed and inspected is moving along beautifully!  The local people have been holding meetings, writing Letters to the Editor, and doing other publicity.  As you saw yesterday, the opposition is essentially pushing back-alley abortions.  What a pro-life victory this is going to be!

It is time for lawn signs, which will also be used for stand-outs and at the polls.  They are especially important at the polls because people forget about the ballot questions and leave them blank.

The election is three weeks from today!  I must get the signs out to the districts ASAP, but we still need to raise $1,050 more to pay for them.  So many people have helped already.  Please help me raise the $1,050 today so I can order the signs.

I am so grateful for all you do.  Please donate today!

Thank you,

Anne

We Finally Got the Pro-Back-Alley-Abortion Letter!!!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

Our abortion facility licensing public policy question is #5 in most districts where it is on the ballot, # 6 in a few others, and #7 in Wilbraham.  It is the same question (see wording below).  Our people in those districts have been sending excellent Letters to the Editor. We have been hoping to have some Letters to the Editor opposing our ballot question, which would give us more of a chance to publicize the pro-life position in favor of #'s 5,6, & 7.  Well, one finally came!  A doctor from Boston wrote to the Sentinal and Enterprise in Fitchburg and Leominster, which are two of our districts.

With true pro-abortion logic, he opposes a law requiring licensing and inspecting by saying, "If we truly want to protect and improve women's health and safety, we need to pass measures that increase access to safe, legal health-care, not restrict it.

I think either he or his cronies will write the same letter to all the papers in the 11 districts where the question is on the ballot.  Please be on the lookout.  It is a wonderful vehicle for a few letters, at least.  Again, please check the list below and contact everyone you know in any of the districts.

There are going to be some good wins in the Massachusetts legislature on Nov 4th.  The ballot question will be the other bright spot for us!

Thanks,

Anne

"Dear Brittany"

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

In response to the email about Brittany, the young woman with brain cancer who plans to commit doctor-prescribed suicide, Anne sent along this note and beautiful letter.  I always appreciate it when people want to share with other pro-lifers.

"Here is a powerful letter written to Brittany from a mother of four who is dying of cancer.  Thought you might like to share it."
http://www.aholyexperience.com/2014/10/dear-brittany-why-we-dont-have-to-be-so-afraid-of-dying-suffering-that-we-choose-suicide/

I also include the article about the European Human Rights Court which, liberal as they are, still seems to get it.

Good Response to Latest Doctor-Prescribed Suicide Story

The national media is bursting with the story of the young woman with a brain tumor who moved to Oregon, got her prescription, and is deciding when to use it.  Marilyn Golden, who helped advise us on our Question 2 win in 2012, handles this difficult story very well,  http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2014/10/07/young-san-francisco-woman-with-brain-cancer-plans-to-end-her-life-on-nov-1-brittany-maynard-oregon-compassion-choices-assisted-suicide-death-with-dignity-oregon/

This doctor-prescribed suicide push is never going away - but, then, neither are we!

Doctor-Prescribed Suicide "Out of Control" in Netherlands

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

I wanted to pull out a few statistics for you, but there are so many and they are so awful that I couldn't.  Please read it yourself.  As is so often the case with the death lobby, things get worse than could have been imagined.  Please start praying because the Massachusetts DPS bill will be filed again in January.

Thanks,

Anne

P.S. I started thinking and did the math.  If Massachusetts followed the path of the Netherlands, we would have about 2,000 known suicide/euthanasia cases a year!

A Delightful Surprise! Important Dates

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

Last night, at their dinner, Morality in Media gave out awards.  I was completely surprised and most honored to accept, on behalf of Massachusetts Citizens for Life, an award for supporting traditional family values!  Others who were honored included the Catholic Daughters of America, Mass. Family Institute, the Knights of Columbus, State Representatives Jim Lyons and Jim Miceli.  Patrick Trueman, President of the national Morality in Media spoke brilliantly.  He was a close friend of Dr. Joseph Stanton, so I was delighted to sit with him and reminisce.

Speaking of dinners, I want to let you know that the MCFL Banquet Committee is pleased to announce their decision to dedicate the 2014 Banquet to Joe Reilly, former Executive Director, President and Chairman of the Board.  Also they asked me to tell you that almost all the tables are already reserved.  I'm looking forward to seeing so many of you!

Today at 5:00 and Other Important Dates This Week

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

Today at 5:00pm the Boston Bar Association hosts a panel discussion on the New Buffer Zone.  It appears that they lined up a half dozen BZ supporters and finally decided maybe they should have someone opposed to the BZ.  They were lucky to get Phil Moran, one of the counsels in McCullen vs Coakley, who has already called the New BZ "draconian."  Of course Phil is going to clean their plates because he has the Constitution on his side and knows much more about the whole thing than the half-dozen  Boston Bar Association supporters, 16 Beacon Street (right across from the State House) at 5:00

Thursday, Oct 2nd at 7:00 pm there will be an information session at the Braintree Library about Public Policy Question #5 which will appear on the ballot in Braintree and Weymouth.  This will instruct the legislature to vote to require abortion facilities to be licensed and inspected.  Right now there are sixteen unlicensed facilities in the Commonwealth.

Thursday, Oct 2nd, Morality in Media Dinner, Bear Hill Golf Club, Stoneham, Features Patrick Trueman, well-known pro-lifer,  http://www.moralmedia.net/activities.html

Saturday, Oct 4th, 9:00am - noon, Assumption College, Worcester, Death with Real Dignity  Speakers:  Deacon Peter J. Gummere, John Kelly, and Marie Romagnano, all people you have been wanting to hear!  http://masscitizensforlife.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Witness_2014-flier.pdf

Door knocking: Paid and Volunteer. Kudos to Springfield-Area Members

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

Earl Sholley is looking for people to door-knock for pay.  If you are interested, please call Earl, 508-699-3334

The MCFL State PAC is looking for volunteers to door-knock in Boston.  Please call 617-388-4582.

Yesterday I worked at the MCFL "booth" at the Eastern States Exposition (Big E).  Really, it is not a booth but a huge corner area in line of sight of a busy entrance filled with the fetal models, video, large pictures of the baby at each month of development, and hand-outs galore.  More than 1.5 million people attend.  Yesterday every pregnant lady in the place found us.  It was really fun!  The people in the Springfield area do a fabulous job every year.  Monica Butler fills 102 volunteer slots of four hours each, Suzie Lopes and her crew move the massive display from the MCFL Ludlow office on her flatbed truck, set it up at the Big E, and reverse the project.  A lot more people are now thinking about that unborn baby.  Thanks, guys!

More State PAC Endorsements for 9/9 Primary

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

Madeline McComish, Chair of the MCFL State PAC, has announced two endorsements for Governor's Council.  According to Madeline, "The Governor's Council is very important from a pro-life perspective.  It is the body which approves judicial appointments.  You know the influence these judges have on the life issues.  In Massachusetts, our tax money pays for abortions in spite of legislation to the contrary because the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decided that the State Constitution requires us to fund abortion.  We are very pleased to endorse Oliver Cipollini in the First Council District and Marilyn Devaney in the Third Council District "

Governor Council Districts can be confusing, so I have listed them.  Also, please be sure to refer to the MCFL rankings of all the candidates for State Senate and House and the endorsement of Mark Fisher for Governor, http://masscitizensforlife.org/get-involved/events/
It is complete, concise and easy to manage.  You can take it to the polls with you.  Be sure the 9th is on your calendar!

Ezekiel Emanuel Didn't Really Say He Would Kill You at Age 75...

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

Ezekiel Emanuel, the architect of O-care, has published an article in The Atlantic saying he does not want to live past age 75.  He says he would not kill you or me at 75, just that he, personally, wants to go then.  The reasons he gives are scary - people accomplish the most in middle age and then slow down, life is not worth living when one is not healthy, productive etc.  The hubris of the man is only trumped by his arrogance.  He personally would refuse treatment, etc.

This is dangerous because of his utilitarian view of what makes people important - what they do not who they are.  Also, he has opened the door to insurance and government refusing treatment to those over age 75 - and he has the credibility.

One of the mothers at the 2014 Summer Academy told the story of her elderly aunt who was talked out of getting a pace maker.  With no pace maker, she had irregular heartbeats which led to a stroke.  Now she is living with the results of the stroke - she cannot speak, etc.  I think this is a good example of the folly of not treating - unless you plan to do away with the patient.

PRAYERS ARE NEEDED FOR SANDRA CANO!  Sandra is in the hospital critically ill.  She never wanted an abortion but her situation was used by the pro-abs to win Doe v Bolton, the Roe v Wade companion case which is responsible for abortion being legal throughout all nine months of pregnancy.  She has worked hard over the years to try to overturn Doe v Bolton.   http://www.lifenews.com/2014/09/22/sandra-cano-doe-of-doe-v-bolton-abortion-case-is-critically-ill/

40 Days for Life starts today!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG
40 Days for Life started this morning at 7:00 am.  I know Jackie, who is 79 years old, was there.  40 Days does such a wonderful job!  The prayers outside the clinics are so powerful  We are very lucky to have all these prayer warriors - which brings me to you.  When you go to pray at one of these abortion facilities (no, they are not all clinics), you also benefit personally.
Mass Citizens is so grateful for the work that 40 Days does that we are honoring all the volunteers at the MCFL Banquet on October 23rd.  http://masscitizensforlife.org/2014-banquet-with-ryan-bomberger-bguy-tickets-now/
Please check out the closest 40 Days location and sign up for a few times.  Try it, you'll like it...and, you'll do so much good!  Thanks to all those who are and will be praying.  Anne

Where is our Abortion Restriction Ballot Question in the Secretary of State Voter Guide?

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

When you read the Voter Guide mailed by the Secretary of State, you may have noticed that our ballot question is not listed.  That is because the Guide lists only the four questions that are on every ballot statewide.  That is why we are number 5 in most places - we come right after the statewide questions in those places.  Where we are #6 or #7 it is because there is a local question on the ballot - like Needham, which was a dry town, always had questions about expanding the sale of liquor.

The pro-lifers working in the districts listed have already done a huge job qualifying for the ballot!  Now they are setting up meetings in each district to explain the Public Policy Question in their communities - they are also educating local organizations, and appearing on local TV and radio.

In order to educate voters and get them to vote, we must print literature and signs, mail, and make phone calls.  We have chosen districts that are heavily pro-life but people will not vote "Yes on 5" unless they know about it.  The Question may not be on your ballot, but you can still help.  We need to pay for the cards, the signs, the postage, and the calls.  Please donate now!  Election Day, Nov. 4th is six weeks from today!

Just think how it will feel on Nov 5th and every day after that to be able to tell the press and legislators that the people want to place restrictions on abortion facilities!

Thanks for whatever help you can provide!

Anne

PS: Please be sure to check the list to see if you or friends or relatives live in one of the districts - and then donate!  Thanks again.

States Bribed to Increase Health-Care Rationing, O-care Does Pay for Abortions, Senior Panels

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

You don't really need to read these articles because you could have written them any time during the last five years.  Yes, it was August of 2009 that we intensified our activity against the proposal that became O-care!  Remember we said, on radio and other media that broke our budget, that O-care would 1) pay for abortions, 2) cause rationing, 3) cause denial of care, and 4) slash conscience rights of medical professionals.

Please at least peek at the last link.  I remember years ago going to an exhibit at the MFA of life size "Terracotta Warriors" and horses recently excavated in China.  They were displayed on gray carpet-covered ramps in a bare, well-lighted room and were striking.  They were so appealing that I have a chess set in the same style.  This new exhibit in NY uses the same style to make an emphatically pro-life point.

We have been working very hard on the candidate information, the abortion restriction ballot question, and other ambitious programs.  Please consider a sacrificial donation to keep these pro-life efforts going.

Thank you!

Anne

All of a sudden it is in the news because the Government Accounting Office has realized that O-care funds abortion!  Some of the groups objecting are just those who claimed our assertions were incorrect.

Election Results for the State and Pro-Life Rankings for Nov. 4th Election

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

Thanks to Janet, who stayed up most of the night, and John, who got all the State Senate and State Representative information onto the website, you can see what happened in your district and across the state.  You can see who the State PAC will be supporting in November and why.  Since we are still hearing from candidates, that will be constantly updated. We were fortunate in our losses.  In many cases, the winner also takes a pro-life position.
As you know, Mark Fisher lost the nomination for Governor but his showing will tell Charlie Baker that he needs the pro-life vote in order to beat Martha Coakley.  Marilyn Devaney won the nomination for Governor's Council in the Third District with no further opposition.  Patricia Saint Aubin and David D'Arcangelo won the Republican nominations for Auditor and Secretary of State. D'Arcangelo will challenge pro-life incumbent Secretary of State, Bill Galvin.
Jack Rowe, Chair of the MCFL Federal PAC tells me the PAC is looking at a couple of Congressional races and may have an announcement soon.
To all the people who worked in campaigns and are gearing up for Nov. - thanks for your work!

Joe Reilly, RIP

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG
Dear Friends,
I am sorry to tell you that, last night, surrounded by his loving wife and family, Joe Reilly was called home to his father. Joe was a pro-life warrior even before Roe v Wade when, as Executive Director of the Mass. Catholic Conference, he helped to defeat pro-abortion legislation.  Joe served Mass. Citizens for Life as President, Executive Director, and long-time Board member.  The story of Joe besting Senator Edward Kennedy at a large meeting at the latter's office is a classic still shared among right-to-lifers.
The Board of Directors and the Staff join me in extending our deepest sympathy to Joe's valiant wife and our dear friend, Evelyn, and to his wonderful children and grandchildren.  "Well done, good and faithful servant... enter thou into the joy of thy lord."
As soon as we know the arrangements, we'll post them on the home page of the MCFL website.

Tomorrow is Primary Day: Information You Need!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

This is a very important Primary.  Turnout will be low, so your vote will really make a difference!  Here are some last-minute reminders from the MCFL State PAC.

The PAC has endorsed Mark Fisher (R) for Governor.  Mark is a long-time member of Mass. Citizens and, as Governor, will make restoring protection for life important.

The PAC has endorsed for Governor's Council: Oliver Cipollini in the First District and Marilyn Devaney in the Third District.

All candidates for State Representative and State Senate, with their positions and endorsements, if any, are listed in the easy-to-use chart on the MCFL website. For State Senate Candidates, click here.

For State Representative Candidates, click here.

If you do not know your district, please click here

Madeline McComish, Chair State PAC asked me to remind you that, if you are Unenrolled (Independent), you can have the most impact taking a Republican ballot and voting for Mark Fisher for Governor, unless you have a significant pro-life Democratic race in your district.

Please be sure to vote and to encourage other pro-life people to vote.

Thanks,

Anne

Baby Lachlan, 7 Weeks, Gets Hearing Aids - Delightful Video

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

Lachlan was born with severe hearing loss - gee, he could have been aborted for that.  At seven weeks, he receives hearing aids.  I don't usually watch videos but this is just wonderful!

Enjoy,

Save the Date: October 23, 2014

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

Massachusetts Citizens For Life is gearing up for its annual Fundraising Banquet on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the Four Points by Sheraton in Norwood, MA. We are excited to have Ryan Bomberger, a rising star in the pro-life movement, as our keynote speaker this year.

You may have seen or heard Ryan on countless news or radio programs, but one in particular always stands out. Ryan was interviewed by MSNBC following the 2013 March for Life in Washington, D.C. When the reporter tried to give unreliable and biased data to state that a majority of Americans were "pro-choice," Ryan – without missing a beat - exposed the flaws in the report and gave the statistics that more accurately show a majority or Americans favor a pro-life position. You can see Ryan's fantastic performance by clicking here.

Tickets for this year's event are $60 each, or you can purchase a table of ten for $500, or a table of 12 for $600. Checks should be made out to MCFL-Charitable Trust. They can be mailed to MCFL, 529 Main Street, Suite 1M9, Boston, MA 02129. Tickets can also be purchased on our website by clicking here.

I
f you have any questions, or you would like more information on the event, please contact me at 617-242-4199 ext. 221. You can also email me atMHanafin@MassCitizensForLife.org.

Big Brother of an Aborted Baby

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

Recently I sent an email about siblings of aborted children.  Pat replied.  There is nothing I can add except prayers.

Anne
Hi Anne - this really touches me.  I was a special education teacher and one day they gave me a depressed, sad little boy who was refusing to eat.  He was not quite seven years old and up to about six months previous, he had been pretty outgoing and 'normal.'

It took me two more months to sufficiently gain his trust and confidence and one day we sat having lunch (I used to take turns having one-on-one time with my kids at lunch and we often ate outdoors at school at a picnic table).    He finally opened up and confided that his mother had had an abortion because she and his father could not afford another child.   He decided he would not eat much because he feared she might abort him.

How about that?  How many more kids are depressed or have other strong reactions to learning their mother had "gotten rid" of an unwanted child?

Makes me cry.

Love,

Pat

After Tiller: PBS Pro-Abortion "Documentary"

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

Even on Labor Day you won't be left in peace by the pro-abs!  PBS is going to air "After Tiller."

Washington Post,  "It goes without saying that the procedure at the heart of "After Tiller" — wherein pregnancies are terminated in their third trimester, resulting in what is essentially the stillbirth of a premature infant — is at the center of a noisy, fast-moving national debate. But rather than focus on the shouting, filmmakers Martha Shane and Lana Wilson bring their cameras into the clinics themselves, where they intimately record medical professionals and their patients reaching agonizing decisions regarding the health and welfare of their would-be children, their families and themselves."

Judie Brown, American Life League, "Why are pro-life tax dollars being used to paint a sympathetic picture of abortionists who stab babies in the base of their skulls just moments before they are born?  Where is the sympathy for the babies, whose brains are being sucked out by vacuum machines by these abortionists?"

Dave Andrusko, Editor, National Right to Life News,  "The initial round of comments to the press release posted at PBS.org were almost uniformly negative. No doubt the late-term abortion apologists will rally their supporters to flood the response line.  None of that will change the ugly truth. That the lives of huge babies who are way, way past the [initial] point of being able to feel pain, are being brutally snuffed out. And that PBS is willing to give a platform to a film that glorifies the killing."
Anne Fox,  "When the media panders to pro-abortion rhetoric and the big money all goes to pro-abortion forces and their propaganda, thank goodness we have Massachusetts Citizens for Life fighting for life.  Please consider the odds and make a sacrificial investment in our life saving work right now.  Thank you in advance!"

Contacting PBS About "After Tiller"

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

Some people have asked how to contact PBS to demand that they pull the After Tiller movie from their Monday night schedule.  Here are the contact forms for the two stations in Massachusetts.

Good luck!

If it Comes Out of the White House on Friday Afternoon, WATCH OUT!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

The Obama administration has put out many versions of the HHS mandate, which requires employers to pay for medical insurance that covers abortion.  Each time they assure us that they have accommodated our beliefs.  This latest, in response to the Hobby Lobby Supreme Court decision, appears to be as unsatisfactory as the others.

Another case (like the New Buffer Zone) of the government not "getting it" when SCOTUS rules…?

See what you think.

Anne

By JOSH LEDERMAN - Associated Press - Friday, August 22, 2014

WASHINGTON (AP) - Seeking to quell a politically charged controversy, the Obama administration announced new measures Friday to allow religious nonprofits and some companies to opt out of paying for birth control for female employees while still ensuring those employees have access to contraception.

Even so, the accommodations may not fully satisfy religious groups who oppose any system that makes them complicit in providing coverage they believe is immoral.

Effective immediately, the U.S. will start allowing faith-affiliated charities, colleges and hospitals to notify the government - rather than their insurers - that they object to birth control on religious grounds.

A previous accommodation offered by the Obama administration allowed those nonprofits to avoid paying for birth control by sending their insurers a document called Form 700, which transfers responsibility for paying for birth control from the employer to the insurer. But Roman Catholic bishops and other religious plaintiffs argued just submitting that form was like signing a permission slip to engage in evil.

In a related move, the administration announced plans to allow for-profit corporations like Hobby Lobby Inc. to start using Form 700. The Supreme Court ruled in June that the government can't force companies like Hobby Lobby to pay for birth control, sending the administration scrambling for a way to ensure their employees can still get birth control one way or another at no added cost.

The dual decisions mark the Obama administration's latest effort to address a long-running conflict that has pitted the White House against churches and other religious groups. The dispute has sparked dozens of legal challenges, fueling an election-year debate about whether religious liberty should trump a woman's access to health care options.

"Today's announcement reinforces our commitment to providing women with access to coverage for contraception, while respecting religious considerations raised by nonprofit organizations and closely held for-profit companies," said Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell.

Yet the latest proposals will likely run up against the same objections, because they still enable employees to receive contraception through their health plans - one of a range of preventive services required under President Barack Obama's health care law.

ALS bucket challenge raises questions about embryonic stem cell research

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG

We have all seen pictures of famous people dumping buckets of ice over their heads to raise money for ALS research ($5.5 million since the end of July) and then nominating other people to do the same.  Before you take the challenge, please be aware that one of the main beneficiaries is the ALS Association.  If you check the MCFL website,  http://masscitizensforlife.org/anti-life-research-charities/ for organizations that fund embryonic stem cell research, you will find that ALS Association certainly does.

According to their website, ALSA.org: "Adult stem cell research is important and should be done alongside embryonic stem cell research as both will provide valuable insights. Only through exploration of all types of stem cell research will scientists find the most efficient and effective ways to treat diseases."

Project ALS, another major beneficiary, is also on our web site for funding ESCR.

John Triolo did some research to see if there are ALS organizations that do not fund ESCR.

Here is what he found:

"I called the ALS Therapy Development Institute (here:http://www.als.net/), to check on this issue and they said they do not do any research with embryonic stem cells because they think induced pluripotent adult stem cells are the best avenue to a cure.  They do not have a principled objection to using embryonic stem cells but said they understand the gravity of the issue and would be very public if they change their position so donors and potential donors would be aware.

Compassionate Care ALS (here: http://www.ccals.org/home.php) confirmed by phone that they only do care and treatment for people living with ALS, rather than research."

If you have questions about whether an organization funds ESCR, please always check http://masscitizensforlife.org/anti-life-research-charities/

Thanks to John and to you!  Anne

Alert: MCFL State PAC endorsements for 9/9 Primary!

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_variation.JPG
As usual, Mass Citizens has polled and ranked incumbents and other candidates for the legislature and state offices.  The results are posted on the Mass Citizens website (CLICK HERE).  Using these results, the MCFL State PAC has endorsed/recommended many candidates.

Check the endorsements/recommendations, http://masscitizensforlife.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/2014-Endorsements-and-Recommendations-amended21AUG2014.pdf and share the information with others in your district.

The FedPAC has not made any endorsements for 2014 because there are not any Massachusetts races for Congress or the US Senate which can help the cause of life..

Some of the state races are very important to restoring respect for human lifeWe need to elect people who will vote pro-lfe.  Please go immediately to http://masscitizensforlife.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/2014-Endorsements-and-Recommendations-amended21AUG2014.pdf to find the pro-life candidates in your districts.

Doctor Prescribed Suicide, licensing abortion facilities, and  women's right to know are among the bills which will be coming up next session.  We must elect our people!  Anne

How Do Children Feel When They Find Their Siblings Have Been Aborted?

MCFL_logo_072u-485u_600ppi_1_-smaller.jpg

There have been been more than 55 million abortions since Roe v Wade.  Almost half of them are the woman's second or more abortion..  Probably, then, about 42 million women are post-abortive  That means abortion in 42 million families.

We have been told that the siblings of aborted babies - the survivors - may feel guilty to have survived or scared of what might happen to them, but there is really very little out their which addresses the huge situation.  This article from the National Right to Life News is a start.  It certainly made me think!
