Dec 28th: Feast of the Holy Innocents

logo

The slaughter of the babies to satisfy Herod's personal ambition reminds me of the work we must do. The task is daunting, but we can find consolation in these words of Congressman Henry Hyde:

"When the time comes, as it surely will, when we face that awesome moment, the final judgment, I've often thought, as Fulton Sheen wrote, that it is a terrible moment of loneliness. You have no advocates, you are there alone, standing before God -- and a terror will rip your soul like nothing you can imagine. But I really think that those in the pro-life movement will not be alone. I believe there will be a chorus of voices that have never been heard in this world, but are heard beautifully and clearly in the next world -- and they will plead for everyone who has been in this movement. They will say to God, 'Spare them because they loved us,' and God will look at us and say not, 'Did you succeed?' but 'Did you try?'"

Keep up the good work and thank you!

Worcester: Abortion is not HealthCare

I know you are all pretty much sick of what's going on in Washington DC, but we need one final effort to prevent abortion funding in any healthcare plan that our politicians shove down our throats.  Pleas call Sen. Kirk at 202-224-4543 and Sen. Kerry at (202) 224-2742 one last time and urge them to include the Stupak language in any healthcare bill to keep the status quo of no governement funding of abortion or abortion insurance!  Call the Worcester Diocese Chancery too, 508-791-717 and tell them you'll help the Bishop in any way to prevent abortion funding in healthcare.

Thirty pieces of silver = billion$ in bribe$

logo
At 1:08 AM this morning, December 21, on the darkest day of the year, Sen. Reid bought himself a vote for a bill that mandates abortion, rationing, denial of care, and denial of concsience rights.

Does that mean his vile health care is a done deal? NO!

It means we have to keep educating the public. Support for this legislation is at 32%. When it gets down into the 20's things will start happening.

It means "Letters to the Editor" and talking to everyone you encounter.

It means we have to keep contacting all our Congressmen, particularly Stephen Lynch and Richard Neal. They are scheduled to be home until Jan 11. Make arrangements now to visit their offices. Talk to your friends and neighbors who know them personally.

It means those of you who don't live in the Lynch or Neal districts must contact everyone you know who does and have them contact their congressmen.

It means contacting Sen. Kirk. A pro-life Christmas card with a polite message would be nice. You may feel that Sen Kirk has spoiled your Christmas. He can't spoil that beautiful day of joy and life!

It means voting every time you have a chance for candidates who oppose this travesty!

It means acting on the information below and sharing it with everyone you know!. Think of what life will be like under these plans!

Kirk's phone number - correction

logo
That is Kerry, 202-224-2742, and Kirk, 202-224-4543. Call to oppose the so-called "Managers' Amendment" which includes the unacceptable abortion "compromise" language!
As of 9:29pm on Saturday, Kirk's mailbox is full . When you call on Sunday, if it is still full, you may want to call his home, 508-428-5294, to leave your message - the vote is Sunday night!

Action alert! Nelson caves! Abortion vote 1 AM Monday morning!

logo
It is critical that you call Senators Kerry, 202-224-2742, and Kirk, 202-244-4543, at least ONCE before the 1 AM cloture vote on Sunday night/Monday morning!

One of our members from Framingham was told on Friday by Kirk's aide that Kirk had received 255 calls in favor of abortion funding and only 95 calls against. That must be reversed!

Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) has publicly caved on a abortion "compromise" - after being promised
tens of millions of dollars of federal Medicaid funds for his home state.

The abortion "compromise" does NOT contain language similar to the Stupak amendment approved by the House which restricted government funding of abortion.

It still contains the monthly abortion fee and allows states to opt out of providing abortion coverage. So MA taxpayers will pay for the abortions in Massachusetts and for the abortions in opt-out states.

The bottom line: contrary to long standing policy, the federal government will be forcing YOU to subsidize
private health insurance plans that cover abortion -- resulting in the largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade.

Harry Reid believes he now has the 60 votes needed to move the abortion-laden health care bill forward. He has scheduled the all-important CLOTURE VOTE to end debate for 1 AM late Sunday night/Monday morning.

*** ACTION ALERT ***

It is IMPERATIVE that you call Senators Kerry, 202-224-2742, and Kirk, 202-244-4543!

Tell them, "abortion is NOT health care!" If you wait until Monday morning it will be too late!

This is a CALL-ONLY alert because less than 48 hours remain before the Senate votes.
Thank you for your dedication!

Reid cloture vote Friday! MA stalling on Buffer Zone Appeal?

logo
Senator Reid wants to vote on the Senate "bill" (which no one has seen) by Christmas Eve.
That means he must get a vote on cloture, to end debate, by Saturday night.
Call Senator Kirk on Friday! Urge him to oppose cloture. It may seem as though you are calling him weekly - hope you are! First it was conscience clause, then abortion, then conscience clause, now it is cloture. That is all good!
During the five months that our calls have held off the bills, look at how much better informed people have become and how the opposition has built. If you had not made all those calls to your Congressmen in the summer, the deal would be long done. Congratulations!
That's Kirk on Friday! Telephone: 202-224-4543, Fax: 202-224-2417
Also, you might leave a "thank you" message for Senator Ben Nelson. He is holding firm on the abortion language, which could stop cloture. Tel: 202-224-6551. Fax: 202-228-0012
The Assistant Attorney General of the Commonwealth, Administrative Law Division, says today that he plans to ask the Supreme Court for a one month extension, until Feb 4th, for his response to the cert petition of the plaintiffs (that's our people) in the Buffer Zone Appeal. It would have been expected that the state would already have responded on their own. Instead the Supreme Court had to ask them to respond and now they don't plan to meet the Court's deadline.
Thank you for your calls - they are crucial!

Please note correct contact information for Janet Callahan.

Jack Rowe, Chairman of the Mass Citizens Political Action Committee reports that the PAC will be distributing literature on Jan 16 and 17, the weekend before the US Senate election. He is looking for volunteers.

The PAC is organizing this effort by state rep. districts. That means you can help close to home.

Jack says, "This is an unprecedented opportunity to send a pro life vote to the Senate. The turn-out will be very low. The name of the game will be getting out the vote. There are more than enough pro-lifers in the state to send Scott Brown to Washington - a pro-life vote from Massachusetts, no less!

"We need to have volunteers in place before Christmas because the election comes so soon after the New Year"

Jack continues, "Please call Janet at 617-242-4199 X 230 or email her JCallahan@masscitizensforlife.org. Leave your name, phone number, email and the name of your state rep. If you are not sure of the name of your rep, leave your address. I will get in touch with you about how you can help."

Kirk's office vs real info. on conscience rights

logo

Senator Kirk's staff has been very cordial to pro-life people who are calling. They have a misconception, however, that we must address.

As you know, they are saying that there is already a conscience clause in the health care bill. They refer to section 1303 in the abortion part of the bill. This is faulty. Even if there were a good abortion conscience clause, that would still not cover the bulk of medical care or provide any conscience rights in other areas for medical professionals, taxpayers, or patients and their families.

Now it develops that even the conscience clause for abortion must be inadequate because Sen. Tom Coburn, a pro-life Oklahoma Republican who is a medical doctor, has proposed an amendment to the bill that would provide protections for pro-life medical workers.

The Coburn amendment would ensure that health care providers do not have to participate in the performance of abortions.

The amendment closely mirrors an amendment the House Energy & Commerce Committee adopted by a voice vote in July and that was retained in section 259 for the final version of the health care bill the House approved in November.

This is the same amendment that Coburn proposed during committee consideration of the Senate bill. It was defeated in committee.

Coburn says the amendment is needed because, despite federal laws to protect conscience rights, there are still numerous examples - some very recent - of health care providers being pressured or forced to do or assist in abortions.

Of course we know that Senator Kennedy wanted a conscience clause that would apply across the board, but, at least, the Coburn Amendment would be a start.

Please urge Senator Kirk to support the Coburn Conscience Rights Amendment, which is vital to protect health care workers. 202-224-4543.

Do you wish these calls would just go away? That is exactly what Senate leaders are hoping: that we will get tired and go away. We cannot give an inch when the health of everyone in this country is at stake. You are doing a wonderful job!

Thanks again,

Anne Fox, President

Kirk and Kerry both vote for abortion funding!

logo

The U.S. Senate today tabled (killed), by a 54 to 45 vote, an amendment to remove elective abortion from the new federal programs that would be created by pending health care legislation. Senators Kerry and Kirk voted to kill the amendment.

It is important to note that you and I still have a good chance to convince Senator Kirk to vote against the whole bill if it does not ensure conscience rights. Keep your calls going to Senator Kirk! 202-224-4543

We are grateful to Doug Johnson, Lobbyist for the National Right to Life Committee for his clear explanation of what happened and where we go from here.

Doug's analysis: "A majority of senators today voted to keep abortion covered in the proposed federal government insurance program, and to subsidize private insurance plans that cover abortion on demand. Now, the vote on cloture on the bill itself will become the key vote on whether to put the federal government into the abortion business. We will oppose cloture on the bill, which would require 60 affirmative votes. In addition, a number of pro-life Democrats in the House, who supported passage of health care legislation on November 7, will not vote for the Senate bill in its current form. So, this is a long way from over.

"The amendment rejected today, supported by NRLC, was sponsored by Senator Ben Nelson (D-Ne.) and Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). It contained the same substance as the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, which was adopted by the House of Representatives on November 7, 240-194. Both amendments would prevent the federal government insurance program (the "public option") from paying for abortion (except to save the life of the mother, or in cases of rape or incest). In addition, both amendments would prevent federal subsidies from being used to purchase private health plans that cover elective abortion, but would not restrict the sale or purchase of such policies with private funds.

"As NRLC has previously noted, the health care bill pending in the Senate, proposed by Senator Harry Reid (D-Nv.) and backed by President Obama, would authorize the federal government to pay for any and all abortions through a huge new federal health insurance program, the "public option," and would also subsidize purchase of private plans that cover abortion on demand. President Obama and Reid know that the substance of these abortion-promoting policies is deeply unpopular, so they seek to conceal the reality with layers of contorted definitions and money-laundering schemes."

Please let us know what responses you are getting to your calls to Kirk. Thank you!

New MCFL Radio Ad on Healthcare!

logo

We started our third round of health care ads today on WROL, WTAG, WHYN, and WROL on line. The first were on the need to exclude abortion funding from the House bill. Our targets, Congressmen Lynch and Neal voted with us. The second went from the baby's heart beat and abortion to rationing and denial of care. The newest cover the four areas where seniors are under attack.

It is expensive to run ads. Please send the ad to your email list, to any blog you read, to face book friends, etc. That way thousands of people can hear the ad for free. You can listen now:

Call Kirk Again! U. S. House sneaks in new abortion funding!

logo
Senator Nelson is warning that, if his amendment restricting abortion funding does not pass the Senate, he will filibuster the entire bill. We need more senators to stand with him. Senator Kirk favors restricting government funding of abortion (the Hyde amendment), so he should oppose funding in the health care bills. VOTE SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY

Call Senator Kirk tonight or Tuesday at 202-224-4543. Urge him to vote for the Nelson - Hatch - Casey Amendment. Senator Casey signing on is a coup!

Meanwhile, in the House, members are trying to use an omnibus appropriations bill to fund abortions not currently funded.

The Financial Services Appropriations Bills would overturn longstanding federal law prohibiting taxpayer funding of abortions in the District of Columbia.
The Financial Services Bill would overturn the federal law that prohibits paying for abortions for federal employees under their government-supplied health insurance plans.
The Foreign Operations Appropriations Bill amends the Foreign Assistance Act so that no future president can undo the executive order President Barack Obama has put in place overturning the Mexico City Policy, under which Americans were not forced to fund groups that promote and perform abortions in other countries. VOTE SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK

Call your Congressman immediately urging a "no" vote on the Omnibus Appropriations Bill!
