Pro-Choice vs. Pro-Abortion in Jan 19 election

Perhaps I was engaging in hyperbole when I endorsed Scott Brown for US Senator from Massachusetts in my previous emails, as the only "pro-life" vote.  For the record, Scott Brown is Pro-Choice.  In past voter guides MCFL has listed Brown as Pro-abortion while NARAL Planned Parenthood has listed Brown's Pro-Choice voting as "mixed."  My point was that despite his Pro-Choice stance, Scott Brown is against government funding for abortion, against minors getting abortions without parental consent, against partial birth abortion, and for strong conscience clause protection for health and pharmacy workers so they will not have to engage in abortions in any manner against their beliefs.  This puts Scott Brown light years ahead of Pro-Abort Martha Coakley, who as a lawyer did pro-bono work getting minor girls to judges so they could get abortions without their parents consent or knowledge, and who in the debate with Brown tried to claim that Brown was against medical treatment for rape victims because he supports a conscience clause.  Libertarian Joseph L. Kennedy is running as an Independent, is Pro-same-sex marriage and did not reply to Massachusetts Family Institute Voter Guide questions about his views on abortion.

Coakley insists National HealthCare fund abortions, which the Guttmacher Institute (Planned Parenthood) admits will increase abortions in the US by 250,000-420,000 per year.  This is why the Democrats removed that old canard "Safe, Legal and Rare" from their 2008 party platform! Martha Coakley is clearly an abortion zealot, and we cannot allow her to go to Washington. It makes sense to vote for Scott Brown in this election.  If there were a Pro-Life candidate, I'd vote for him or her, but there is not.

Please Vote for Scott Brown on Tuesday Jan 19: The Only Pro-Life vote in this special election

Drive someone to the polls NOW and exciting baby news!

logo
Many people have been calling to tell us that they are taking friends and neighbors to vote at their Town Halls because older people are afraid of the weather or crowds or not being well on the 19th.

No one should be denied to opportunity to vote because of weather, age, or disability...

People can vote Wednesday, Thursday or Friday at their Town Halls, although some may close at noon on Friday, and at the polls on Tuesday. That is three and one half days left!

Please think of your friends and neighbors who might need help and arrange right now to take them. You can vote at the same time. Your friends will be very grateful.

Thank you for all you do for life!

PS I just received this from Melissa, who does our book keeping. She passed her 33rd week on Monday.
"Grace Alice Vieira decided to hurry out into the outside world this evening at 6:04pm, 1/12/10. I had a contraction at about 5:35 and then literally I went up 4 floors and was ready to push! Thank goodness I wasn't at home, or Victor would have had to deliver her in the car. Poor Victor didn't actually make it in in time. But it couldn't have gone smoother and I feel great. She is doing wonderfully- breathing on her own and comfortably nestled in her warming bed in the NICU. She's 5 lbs, 4.8 oz and I actually don't know how long she is!
I'll send a picture soon! I hope all is well in there and I'm sure I'll see you soon. Hopefully she won't have to stay in the NICU more than a week or 2."
Praise the Lord!

BROWN UP BY ONE POINT! Don't get complacent!

logo

American Spectator reports (Saturday at 7:30 pm) the latest Public Policy Polling survey that shows Scott Brown leading Martha Coakley 48% to 47%!
Republicans are more enthusiastic about turning out than Democrats by 66% to 48%
Brown leads among independents by 63 % to 31%;
Brown's favorability among unaffiliated voters is 70%.
Independents oppose the Democratic health care plan 59% to 27%.
Brown has a net favorable rating of 32 points.

The pollsters note that there are still many things Coakley could do to turn the race around! The biggest is to raise Democratic turnout. Democrats greatly outnumber Republicans and Coakley can afford to send a limo to bring each of them to the polls. MCFL PAC wants YOU!

logo
Jack Rowe, Chair of the PAC, tells us that, by the time of the Senate election on January 19, the PAC will have completed 120,000 phone calls to our members, run ads on the major radio stations across the state, and distributed 170,000 cards ( designed by Helen Cross, they are gorgeous). All these things remind voters that Brown will be a pro-life vote in the U S Senate and that his vote will DEFEAT THIS HEALTH CARE BILL! Then we can start over to insure ethical, sustainable health care.

We need to bring out 40,000 people who would not have voted and Brown will win!

With your help, those people will vote!

I know that Jack still needs more help with the literature drop. He has about 65% of the people he needs.
It is not being over dramatic to say that this election can save our way of life.

Three parables for MA pro-lifers

logo
First Parable
A woman ran a large orphanage full of precious children. One day a terrible fire broke out. The woman ran for help. Her neighbors came and said they would go in to save the children. The woman asked, "Will you save all my children?" "No", said the neighbors, "But we will save as many as we can". The woman replied, "I don't want to have anything to do with you if you can't guarantee to save them all"
The firemen came and said they would go in to save the children. The woman asked, "Will you save all my children?" "No", said the firemen, "But we will save as many as we can". The woman replied, "I don't want to have anything to do with you if you can't guarantee to save them all"

The Fire Chief came and told the woman that her house had burned to the ground and all the children were dead. The woman replied, "At least my conscience is pure! I did not deal with anyone who would not guarantee to save all the children"
Second Parable
A flood arrives and the man is up to his knees in water. A truck comes to him. The people in the truck call out, "We have come to save you! Get in!" The man replies, "No thank you. God will save me"
The water rises and the man is hanging out of his second story window. A speedboat comes to him. The people in the boat call out, "We have come to save you! Get in!" The man replies, "No thank you. God will save me"
The man is on his roof clinging to his chimney. A helicopter comes to him. The people in the helicopter call out, "We have come to save you! Get in!" The man replies, "No thank you. God will save me"
Of course, the man drowns. When he sees God, he berates God for not saving him. God answers, "I sent a truck for you, I sent a boat for you, I sent a helicopter for you...
Third Parable
Matthew (25:13-30)
"It will be as when a man who was going on a journey called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them.
To one he gave five talents;to another, two; to a third, one--to each according to his ability. Then he went away.

Immediately the one who received five talents went and traded with them, and made another five.
Likewise, the one who received two made another two. But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master's money.

After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them.
The one who had received five talents came forward bringing the additional five. He said, 'Master, you gave me five talents. See, I have made five more.'
His master said to him, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy.'
(Then) the one who had received two talents also came forward and said, 'Master, you gave me two talents. See, I have made two more.'
His master said to him, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy.'

Then the one who had received the one talent came forward and said, 'Master, I knew you were a demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter;so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground. Here it is back.'
His master said to him in reply, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did not scatter?
Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on my return?
Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten.
For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
And throw this useless servant into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.'

The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away... Plus what you need to know about abortion funding in Massachusetts

logo

We have good news! Melissa Vieira, who does our book keeping, has been in the hospital for a month trying to extend the time before her little Grace is born. Grace is now at 32 ½ weeks and staying put! Melissa is the daughter of Dick Carey, our first MCFL Executive Director.

Kathy Healy and Charlie Doyle both died last month. They were pro-life heroes! Part of the story of their contributions to the pro-life movement is the story of abortion funding in this state.

There have been many questions about state funding of abortion in the wake of the Stupak amendment. It is time to review the situation in Massachusetts. You will be amazed at the pivotal roles Kathy and Charlie played in the situation.

In the summer of 1976, the National Right to Life Convention was held in Boston. In recognition of the Bicentennial, it was a most splendid event. Congressman Henry Hyde was here. At Faneuil Hall (fittingly), he announced that he would file the Hyde Amendment. As you know, it passed, was deemed constitutional by the Supreme Court, and is still mostly in effect, although it must be renewed in each session of Congress. That meant that federal funds would not be used to pay for Medicaid abortions, but state money would still be used.

State Representatives Charlie Doyle of West Roxbury and Ray Flynn of South Boston filed the Doyle Flynn Bill, designed to cut off state funding of abortion just as the Hyde amendment had cut off federal funding. Passage was a battle royal, with the entire state budget being held up and gubernatorial vetoes. During this time, Charlie was a real leader at the State House. Kathy was President of Mass. Citizens - eminently effective, wise, and hard-working.

Finally, when Ed King was elected, we had a governor willing (and eager) to sign the bill, which he did in May of 1979. Of course, the pro-abortion forces went right into court. Eventually the Supreme Judicial Court ruled that, even though the US Constitution did not require abortion funding, the Massachusetts Constitution did. A state Constitution can offer more rights, but not fewer, than the Federal Constitution. Unfortunately, the right here is the right to use tax-payer money to pay for abortion. Very few states fund abortion - most of them, like Massachusetts, under court order.

The only way to overturn an SJC ruling is a Constitutional Amendment, which we attempted in 1986. The amendment said that the constitution did not require abortion funding. In spite of the difficult wording of the amendment; the malicious media, which claimed it would outlaw all abortions; the huge disparity in funds; and polls showing support for the amendment at 29%, the amendment garnered 42% of the vote because of the herculean work of pro-life people across the state, led by Kathy who chaired the effort.

Kathy and Charlie contributed in so many other ways to all efforts to save lives. With the health care debate raging, it is fitting to remember what they did to try to save us from paying for abortions. I envision Henry Hyde's little ones already welcoming them both.

PAC says electing Brown will defeat health care!

logo

Jack Rowe, Chair, Massachusetts Citizens for Life Political Action Committee tells us:

"People are terribly upset about health care and asking what to do.

Here is the very exciting part. We in Massachusetts can actually save the whole country from this awful health care.

Our PAC has been supporting Scott Brown because he will be a pro-life vote in the Senate. Scott Brown will also vote against the health care bill.

After the compromise bill comes out of conference, it must be approved again by each house. Brown will vote against the bill. That means there will not be 60 votes in the Senate! That means the bill will be defeated!

Can we do it? We certainly can! Turn-out will be very small. If each of you votes for Scott Brown and gets one other person to vote that should win the election. Also, be sure to arrange for your elderly or house-bound friends to vote. Call your town hall on Monday!

We must be very sure so we are doing a huge pro-life literature "drop" the weekend of January 16 and 17 - right before the election. We need your help! Please contact Janet at Mass Citizens to volunteer: jcallahan@masscitizensforlife.org or 617-242-4199 X 230.

We are the only state that can stop this health care! You and I are the voters who can do it. Contact Janet today!

Dec 28th: Feast of the Holy Innocents

logo

The slaughter of the babies to satisfy Herod's personal ambition reminds me of the work we must do. The task is daunting, but we can find consolation in these words of Congressman Henry Hyde:

"When the time comes, as it surely will, when we face that awesome moment, the final judgment, I've often thought, as Fulton Sheen wrote, that it is a terrible moment of loneliness. You have no advocates, you are there alone, standing before God -- and a terror will rip your soul like nothing you can imagine. But I really think that those in the pro-life movement will not be alone. I believe there will be a chorus of voices that have never been heard in this world, but are heard beautifully and clearly in the next world -- and they will plead for everyone who has been in this movement. They will say to God, 'Spare them because they loved us,' and God will look at us and say not, 'Did you succeed?' but 'Did you try?'"

Keep up the good work and thank you!

I know you are all pretty much sick of what's going on in Washington DC, but we need one final effort to prevent abortion funding in any healthcare plan that our politicians shove down our throats.  Pleas call Sen. Kirk at 202-224-4543 and Sen. Thirty pieces of silver = billion$ in bribe$

logo
At 1:08 AM this morning, December 21, on the darkest day of the year, Sen. Reid bought himself a vote for a bill that mandates abortion, rationing, denial of care, and denial of concsience rights.

Does that mean his vile health care is a done deal? NO!

It means we have to keep educating the public. Support for this legislation is at 32%. When it gets down into the 20's things will start happening.

It means "Letters to the Editor" and talking to everyone you encounter.

It means we have to keep contacting all our Congressmen, particularly Stephen Lynch and Richard Neal. They are scheduled to be home until Jan 11. Make arrangements now to visit their offices. Talk to your friends and neighbors who know them personally.

It means those of you who don't live in the Lynch or Neal districts must contact everyone you know who does and have them contact their congressmen.

It means contacting Sen. Kirk. A pro-life Christmas card with a polite message would be nice. You may feel that Sen Kirk has spoiled your Christmas. He can't spoil that beautiful day of joy and life!

It means voting every time you have a chance for candidates who oppose this travesty!

It means acting on the information below and sharing it with everyone you know!. Think of what life will be like under these plans!

Kirk's phone number - correction

logo
That is Kerry, 202-224-2742, and Kirk, 202-224-4543. Call to oppose the so-called "Managers' Amendment" which includes the unacceptable abortion "compromise" language!
As of 9:29pm on Saturday, Kirk's mailbox is full . When you call on Sunday, if it is still full, you may want to call his home, 508-428-5294, to leave your message - the vote is Sunday night!

Action alert! Nelson caves! Abortion vote 1 AM Monday morning!

logo
It is critical that you call Senators Kerry, 202-224-2742, and Kirk, 202-244-4543, at least ONCE before the 1 AM cloture vote on Sunday night/Monday morning!

One of our members from Framingham was told on Friday by Kirk's aide that Kirk had received 255 calls in favor of abortion funding and only 95 calls against. That must be reversed!

Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) has publicly caved on a abortion "compromise" - after being promised
tens of millions of dollars of federal Medicaid funds for his home state.

The abortion "compromise" does NOT contain language similar to the Stupak amendment approved by the House which restricted government funding of abortion.

It still contains the monthly abortion fee and allows states to opt out of providing abortion coverage. So MA taxpayers will pay for the abortions in Massachusetts and for the abortions in opt-out states.

The bottom line: contrary to long standing policy, the federal government will be forcing YOU to subsidize
private health insurance plans that cover abortion -- resulting in the largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade.

Harry Reid believes he now has the 60 votes needed to move the abortion-laden health care bill forward. He has scheduled the all-important CLOTURE VOTE to end debate for 1 AM late Sunday night/Monday morning.

*** ACTION ALERT ***

It is IMPERATIVE that you call Senators Kerry, 202-224-2742, and Kirk, 202-244-4543!

Tell them, "abortion is NOT health care!" If you wait until Monday morning it will be too late!

This is a CALL-ONLY alert because less than 48 hours remain before the Senate votes.
Thank you for your dedication!

Reid cloture vote Friday! MA stalling on Buffer Zone Appeal?

logo
Senator Reid wants to vote on the Senate "bill" (which no one has seen) by Christmas Eve.
That means he must get a vote on cloture, to end debate, by Saturday night.
Call Senator Kirk on Friday! Urge him to oppose cloture. It may seem as though you are calling him weekly - hope you are! First it was conscience clause, then abortion, then conscience clause, now it is cloture. That is all good!
During the five months that our calls have held off the bills, look at how much better informed people have become and how the opposition has built. If you had not made all those calls to your Congressmen in the summer, the deal would be long done. Congratulations!
That's Kirk on Friday! Telephone: 202-224-4543, Fax: 202-224-2417
Also, you might leave a "thank you" message for Senator Ben Nelson. He is holding firm on the abortion language, which could stop cloture. Tel: 202-224-6551. Fax: 202-228-0012
The Assistant Attorney General of the Commonwealth, Administrative Law Division, says today that he plans to ask the Supreme Court for a one month extension, until Feb 4th, for his response to the cert petition of the plaintiffs (that's our people) in the Buffer Zone Appeal. It would have been expected that the state would already have responded on their own. Instead the Supreme Court had to ask them to respond and now they don't plan to meet the Court's deadline.
Thank you for your calls - they are crucial!

MCFL PAC NEEDS YOU! correction

logo
Please note correct contact information for Janet Callahan.

Jack Rowe, Chairman of the Mass Citizens Political Action Committee reports that the PAC will be distributing literature on Jan 16 and 17, the weekend before the US Senate election. He is looking for volunteers.

The PAC is organizing this effort by state rep. districts. That means you can help close to home.

Jack says, "This is an unprecedented opportunity to send a pro life vote to the Senate. The turn-out will be very low. The name of the game will be getting out the vote. There are more than enough pro-lifers in the state to send Scott Brown to Washington - a pro-life vote from Massachusetts, no less!

"We need to have volunteers in place before Christmas because the election comes so soon after the New Year"

Jack continues, "Please call Janet at 617-242-4199 X 230 or email her JCallahan@masscitizensforlife.org. Leave your name, phone number, email and the name of your state rep. If you are not sure of the name of your rep, leave your address. I will get in touch with you about how you can help."

Jack and the PAC are working very hard. Thank you for helping!
